\amethystarooni: I usually use a and b, unless there's something mnemonic to use
arooni: What kind of things are you jumping around to?
arooni\amethyst: what are thsee things oficially called?
\amethystmarks
thoratarooni: I used to have some conventions, like i for includes, d for defines, when I was programming C
arooniooh thats cool
hot damn......! it even remember for each file
when i close it and repoen
thoratarooni: use capital letters for cross file marks
arooni: i.e. global marks
arooniwhats a global/cross file mark?
thoratarooni: the opposite of "it even remember for each file"
\amethystarooni: when you use it, it jumps to the file in which you set the mark
aroonidoes it only do that if i use caps?
thoratyes
a != A
you can have an a for each file, but only one A
\amethystarooni: lowercase letters are per-file marks, uppercase letters and numbers are global marks
arooniwell lower case seems to cut cross file too
thoratarooni: but remember, you're not using Vim.
aroonioh well..... cross file marks doesnt work
only per file marks
\amethystarooni: since you're using eclipse I'm not surprised
aroonithorat: yeah i wish there was VIM completely integrated into eclipse
\amethystthe integration probably isn't perfect yet
arooniyeah but its pretty good
for me at least
i fel like i know only 5% of what VIm can do
can VIM do vertical select on a given columN?
Zathrusyes
\amethystctrl-v
arooniah damn
thats an eclipse command
which takes priority
Zathrusthey may've bound it to ctrl-q
ala mswin.vim
you can also do searches that match to a particular column
thoratarooni: When I have to use an IDE because of colleges. I still run a Vim session in parallel and do all my editing there. Then I only use the IDE for building and maybe debugging. I even step through the compiler errors in Vim using quickfix instead of the IDE (ebedded Visual C++).
