MFenany suggestions on writing a syntax highlight for a file that contains embedded syntax from another language?
i have a file that consists of what you might call selectors, of the form ^\*identifier:
then each selector is followed by some HTML markup (with some extra embedded syntax)
it wouldn't be a stretch to call this syntax php-esque
except that the top level organization is around these selectors, rather than being syntax embedded in markup
point is: i can define the syntax for the selectors easily enough, but i want to be able to define the other stuff as HTML. what should i look at for a guideline on that?
deryniSince you said it is rather php-esque perhaps you should look at the php.vim syntax file for if/how it handles using both?
MFenunfortunately that syntax file is 500 lines long and i have no idea where to start :-/
deryniI'd try searching for 'html'.
MFenit appears 30 times
derynigrep html php.vim | wc -l lists 16 lines here.
MFentry -i
deryni20
MFeni just did :1,$s:html:&:gi
20 lines, 30 instances of html
deryniWonderful, that's not a lot. Especially since the first three are comments and sourcing of files, and a good number are in the middle of identifiers.
MFenhtmlTop seems to be important but i can't figure out where it's defined
oh!
it's defined in html.vim
deryniDing ding ding.
MFenhmm.
where do you find the syntax highlighting "primitives" like String, Number, Statement
deryniWhat do you mean?
tpopeI forget the helptopic and always do :helpgrep PreProc
