shigutsoGuerrand, hehe yea that's true... when google start a real fight against MS, we will be happy xD
Lord_VaderChousuke, which leads you to the question: are the apps really modern or just obselete? :P
nosrednaekimVII did you go check the Xorg log like I said?
Syco_the next largest thing running is just "java" at 60mb .. I'm not real sure why that'd be running unless it's needed by xchat or gaim (I just closed firefox)
roland__hey, my video test fails and locks my system when it comes to glxgears test on my ati radeon 9550 with ati proprietary driver.. what can be wrong ? pls
ChousukeLord_Vader: Actually, no-one just cares about memory usage that much anymore,.
erstaziJava can be bloated also
b0ri5how do I install beryl?
Chousukenot on a normal desktop machine at least
VIInosred: yes
nosrednaekimBori5: go to ubuntuguide.com
Lord_VaderChousuke, that's sucks :/ no one appreciates an effective app anymore?
nosrednaekimwhat did the end say?
VIInosred: I didnt know what to lok for tho, it was a huge file
erstaziBB
ChousukeLord_Vader: Well, on embedded platforms.
eddtheduckI have a hard disk from from a cctv device which has an unidentifiable partition type. Is it possible and if so how, to get the data off the disk?
nosrednaekimyeah.... the essential part is at the end
b0ri5I could not find the package in package manager, and terminal does not recognize the cmd.
crash_will a dd find anything?
ChousukeLord_Vader: but on modern machines, you can basically assume that you're not going to run out of memory.
erUSUL!beryl
ubotuBeryl is a window manager that takes advantage of an OpenGL accelerated X environment. See http://forum.beryl-project.org/ - Help in #ubuntu-effects
Lord_VaderChousuke, guess I'll come back nagging after I've done some programming myself :P
VIInosrednaekim: I thought so, but I could find anything of interest..or anything mentioning a login at all
eddtheduckhow does dd work
garuhhhhi! anyone ever used webmin?
Syco_OK, well, hopefully I haven't over-stayed my welcome and can move onto my next issue heh... I have two FAT32 300gig IDE drives that run fine in windows but are so increadibly slow in Ubuntu. To copy a 700mb file sometimes takes over 30 minutes. To just open a folder and read the contents takes 20-25 seconds (per folder). Any ideas?
ChousukeLord_Vader: heh.
nosrednaekimV11: ok, there must have been an error though
ChousukeI try to avoid making stupid mistakes while programming
CogenoI'm trying to reinstall grub (Nuked it with a Windows re-install) through a Gentoo livecd. when I try to install it to /dev/hda (grub-install /dev/hda), it tells me selected disk does not exist. I know that the HD is on /dev/hda and the Linux partitino is on the first partition.
riaalNeed some help, if a page say: "sudo apt-get install linux-headers" the apt-get says I need to specify a package, what to pick of them?
varka!anyone | garuhhh
ubotugaruhhh: A large amount of the first questions asked in this channel start with "Does anyone/anybody..." Why not ask your next question (the real one) and find out?
Cogenoanyone know what's going no/
tarelerulzI use ntfs-3g for my fat32 usb drives
Chousukebut if there's a choice between less memory usage and less code, I take the less code approach .P
Lord_VaderChousuke, that's always a good idea no matter what you do: don't make stupid mistakes :P
Syco_tarelerulz: and it works well?
