PeloLRP, it's just a folder
LRPPelo: gotcha, I'm still thinking like a windows user, my bad
PeloLRP, if it were mounted in /media/ I think it would appear along side the cdrom and such but it would also appear on your desktop
Frog29Genii - the meesage is after grub, and the screen has busybox at the top, then "/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off" and then it has a prompt "(initramfs)"
PeloLRP, we'll beat the windows out of you soon enough
flakecan i add a host name like my windows machines display?

grndslmPelo...sorry, my problem is with keystrokes repeating at random times when my keys aren't even being pressed...that was the clincher

PeloLRP, not realy, in most linux distros, stuff gets mounted in /mnt/ , in ubuntu they added /media/ with instructions to add an icon on the desktop, just a little more mac like ,
scFrAcTAL_:)
Frog29Genii - if you look it up online there are a few posts aobut extra hardware, but i have only one sata drive on a laptop

flakesudo bin/hostname newname ? to change the default host name from (NULL) to the new name?
Flannel!hostname | flake
Pelogrndslm, sounds like a borked keyboard to me
ubotuflake: Use hostname <somehostname> to set the hostname, or to do it permanently: edit /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts . WARNING! Make sure that your current hostname and /etc/hosts match, otherwise sudo may not work properly. Alternatively, use the gui at system>administration>networking on the "General" tab
geniiFrog29: I am thinking actually that your initrd was not installed correctly
grndslmPelo: no, it only happens in linux
