m4nbut, I thought that is something the OS should do automatically ?
if I boot into windows, it handles this situation very well.
PirateHeadm4n: I think there is some sort of mechanism that it supposed to handle it, and I have overheard people discussing it, but I don't know enough about it to be of any help.

PirateHeadHow do I change the default photo folder for F-Spot? Properties does not do it, and there is no relevant key in gconf.
