japershello there. I am in approximately hour 4 of the great windows -> ubuntu shift. but i think i have managed to destroy synaptic package manager
kitchejacksonemg: you might have something low or muted that your sound card needs to play sound
cefxthanks cables, much love
cablesjapers, how did you do that?
cefx, no problem
shatratjacksonemg, or look in alsamixer and make sure nothing is muted and the volumes are turned up

cables!kernel | cefx
ubotucefx: kernel is the core of the Ubuntu Operating System (named 'Linux') - see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel. You shouldn't have to compile one, but if you're convinced you do, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelCustomBuild
cefxahah
PalmnetAnybody know where to look for logs from that update manager, to see what it updated to break beryl?
magenoO1: unmount it and fskc /dev/whatever (scrolled off)
cefxgreat!
jacksonemgwhat happened was i was play quake3, it crashed, along with X, and now no sound plays
magefsck /dev/sda1
cablescefx, hmm... you should use the one built into Ubuntu though.
japers@cables, no idea, but it gives me erros everytime i try to use it,so io cant actualy use it to get software
cablesjapers, what errors?
Noo1mage: ok... thanks.. as root?
mageaye aye
japers@cables "E: Malformed line 38 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem."
cefxcables: Do you see any problem with making a custom one for a LAMP server? I'm not convinced that ubuntu server is 100% secure, and would feel safer recompiling the kernel, etc on my own.
Noo1rhanks
thanks
magenp
cablescefx, if you're confident you can do it right.
cefxcables: and if the case is to better use a distro like gentoo or freebsd?
alright, great
