|_kmh_||Supaplex : doing what ?|
|Supaplex||_kmh_: in kde. click the kmenu, then click the 'settings' section, and 'menu editor' should be one of the choices (well, that's what I have)|
|_kmh_||Supaplex : i use that, my problem is it doesn't work|
on this installation
|Supaplex||_kmh_: as in nothing happens when you click on it. you click, menu disappears, nothing runs. right?|
does it need to run in a terminal window?
is the shell script executable?
|_kmh_||Supaplex : yes|
|Supaplex||does the shell script have #!/bin/sh as the first line?|
do you perfer konsole over xterm?
|_kmh_||Supaplex : it is executable and just contains a line like : java -jar someapp.jar|
and it work fine if i run it in a terminal window
but from Kmenu it doesn't work (neither when entering it under command nor when entering it under run in terminal)
|kkathman||you made the shell executable ?|
|kkathman||what are the permissions ?|
|_kmh_||oh what do you mean by shell ? the 1-line-script ?|
|Supaplex||does the terminal window appear at all when you click the menu item?|
|_kmh_||or the shell (sh) itsself ?|
|_kmh_||Supaplex : yes it appears and vanishes|
|kkathman||the script must be executable and must be allowed for the user to run it|
|Supaplex||put a "sleep 30" at the end of the shell script, and double check the permissions are +x on the script. eg, chmod 755|
|_kmh_||kkathman : well it is owner can read,write and execute|
|Supaplex||the script might need explicit PATHs in it.|
|_kmh_||group and others are set to read only|
|nighthawk||I followed the guide about installing the ati card on suse 10.2 ( http://en.opensuse.org/ATI ) -- yet, I got two cards installed in my machine and it seems not to work,. how can I configure the setup?|
|kkathman||in your script - are you making a call to a root only command ?|
|_kmh_||Supaplex : well i have use absolute path to run it|
Supaplex : so /home/user/....
|kkathman||like for instance, you write a script to do an fdisk -l you cant, because that requires root access|
it might execute the shell command, but not the command inside the shell
|_kmh_||kkathman : no need for root access it just starts a java app|
basically all i want is to execute "java -jar javaapp.jar" and i just put that line in a 1-line script
|Supaplex||_kmh_: try this to troubleshoot http://rafb.net/p/bD1Nn321.html|
|_kmh_||Supaplex : let me check|
what is the which doing ?
|Supaplex||try 'help which' in your shell.|
er, man which
sounds like dinner don't it? ;)
