gammawell I'm talking about the default suse kernel.. if you diffed it with the vanilla kernel you'd probably only find 100 or so patches
according to greg kroah-hartman on the linux links tech show :P
bulent_oktand 100 is not good enough not to call it vanilla?
gammalol noo
bulent_okthow many are?
gammaI'm confused
bulent_okthow many patches does it take to call a kernel different?
lin_gamma, if you're concerned about the patches, you can identify which ones are important to you and patch the default suse kernel with the additional patches.... it takes a little time but is not hard
bulent_oktone is enough for me ;)
lin_:)
gammaI was just making the point opensuse includes 100 or so patches in their kernel, where opensuse includes thousands of custom patches compared to the kernel taken from kernel.org
bulent_oktthousands? how large do you think the kernel is?
gammaerr 2nd opensuse should be ubuntu
lin_?
jengelhbulent_okt: "Too big"
gammaI was just making the point opensuse includes 100 or so patches in their kernel, where _ubuntu_ includes thousands of custom patches compared to the kernel taken from kernel.org
bulent_okthere is the kernel guy :) are they right jengelh?
jengelhwho is right about what?
gammaopensuse doesn't stray from the vanilla kernel
bulent_oktjengelh: gamma claims that opensuse uses vanilla wt only 100 patches, therefore not as good as ubuntu cause they have thousands
gammabulent_okt: I wasn't claiming it wasn't as good because they have less patches
eTangenTI like OpenSuSE's kernel over Ubuntu's. Ubuntu's kernel has TERRIBLE audio latency.
I mean, you can FIX it
jengelhopensuse's 2.6.21 has around 187 pending (some deactivated)
!s/pending/patches/
SUSEhelpjengelh meant: opensuse's 2.6.21 has around 187 patches (some deactivated)
gammaubuntu throws whatever is out there into their kernel
for example support for hardware device X
jengelh185 to be exact.
ubuntu is just stoopid
gammaless patches isn't a bad thing.. ubuntu is just patch happy
jengelhAndrew Tanenbaum already said: Fight Features
gammajengelh: I'd use opensuse if I could locate why my system feels slow with it :P
jengelh!zmd @ gamma
SUSEhelpgamma: To remove zmd and friends type the following in a root console: rpm -e libzypp-zmd-backend zmd zen-updater suse-Register rug ..and then see !sources
jengelh!beagle @ gamma
SUSEhelpRumour has it beagle is awesome
jengelhblech
gammahaha
jengelhremove zmd, remove beagle, remove kde perhaps
