aTypicalFrogbarf...heh...that nick just tickles me. :-)
Frogbarfthanks
i have never had so much trouble installing suse though
robert__aka_druid: when i install Cpanel a few days ago it worked but asked for a licence wich i dont have now for some reason it prevents me from the prompt to SU can you kinda fix that ?
aka_druidI cant
never used that
Frogbarfi guess i'll just try lilo instead.
mikey__my home folder is close to fulll can i safely resize it or move contents ?
aTypicalmikey__, you cannot safely resize it unless you're using something like LVM. As far as moving the contents, you can do that as long as you have the space.
phistmikey: you could e.g. mount an new partition into /home/mikey/porn and move all your porn in there
then you would have some free space for other things
mikey__so all those files like .xine are not neeeded by their respective programs?
phistthose . files you should keep
and the .folders as well

mikey__that is all that is in there is dot something
phistmikey__: I guess you have a folder like .Trash in there
you could start with emtpying that one
Cpudan80hrm
phistmikey__: just check out what you don't need. Perhaps you don't use programs anymore that put data there
Cpudan80I seem to be having problems with Kaffeine
It doesnt want to play DVDs -- it says I don't have read/write access to /dev/dvd ... ?
It's a DVD-RW drive - if that helps
mikey__my trouble is i still cant grasp the file structure of linux so i mess up my partitions on install
i want to do another install no later than 10.3 beta
i want to installed on a mirrored 40 gig array (2 10k rpm 40gig raptors)
what should i read to help decide on my partition scheme?
aka_druidmikey__, accept the defaults is usually the better
mikey__i also have a 275 gig ide drive for filestorage
aka_druidyou should have a /home partition separated, but thats suse default
mikey__is there something special i should do with my swap partition? is more better? i have 2 gigs of ram and my swap doesnt seem to get used much at all
last question
how many alphas are generally released before a new beta?
aka_druidmikey__, its good to have some swap. even if you have 2GB
mikey__do i have to setsomething to get it to be used or is it just for overflow?
