Cpudan80judas_iscariote: thanks
judas_iscariote: does this last through a reboot?
I assume so...
judas_iscarioteCpudan80: nope.
Cpudan80no?
judas_iscarioteCpudan80: you need to add that to your .bashrc file
Cpudan80oh ok
so add that line to bashrc
gotch
gotcha
judas_iscarioteCpudan80: ".bashrc" note the dot
Cpudan80of course! :)
it's hidden!
judas_iscariotecargile: Samba and the protocols it uses are software, not hardware .. why you ask such question ?
cargilejudas: yes..
Cpudan80I may be a newb, but I know that much :-P
judas_iscariotewhat is your specific problem ?
!meta @ cargile
cargilewell..belkin support techs told me they thought the router went bad
I told them I thought it was an ISP outage
and they were SURE
judas_iscariotecargile: what your ISP outage has to do with samba ?
cargilebut then magically moments later everything was back up and running
judas_iscariotecargile: you are not using samba over the internet do you ?
cargilejudas: i'm sorry..this is not whining..you must hear the whole situation
yes
judas_iscariote:-S
cargileone system running samba .. this is the desktop - hardwired to the router
the other is one winxp running wirelessly from the same router
judas_iscariotethe system running samba is in the local network...
cargileummmm...hold on - i dunno the difference...
judas_iscariotenot in the internet.. in that case your "router" is acting like a switch...
cargilethe way it was setup before it crashed was like this:
from either machine i could ping the samba host and verify it...i could access the files on the desktop from the laptop by \\192....etc
judas_iscarioteok..and ?
cargile(i was trying to help you determine if that means its in the local network or not)
: )
i wanted to go ahead and try to get the network back up but I'm afraid it will all come crashing down again
judas_iscariotecargile: the samba host (192... ) is running in the local network ;-)
cargilemeaning i never did the DMZ thing to get it on the internet?
