crolle17jstew you mean using find_by_sql?
defsdoorchapel: agile programming isn't a methodology - it's an approach
_davI'd say XP is a methodology, Agile is an approach
Trengowhat is XP?
defsdoor_dav: my thoughts exactly
_daveXtreme Programming. Lame name, excelleny way to code
chapelwell okay, if you want to argue semantics, point is there is are a set of "approaches" for agile programming, which most commonly are looked at as rules of a methodology but i dont want to argue about it
defsdoorTrengo: it's the way all programmers your program given half the chance and no management to appease
s/your/would/
_daveh, i'm not arguing, just opining :)
crolle17jstew seems to be that ActiveRecord is building a wrong query for MS SQL-Server
chapel_dav: you didnt argue the point :p but either did I
jstewcrolle17: for whatever reason it's not allowing you to select distinct on ntext and image fields. Maybe that's a limitation of SQL server (just guessing)
crolle17jstew no, i think rails (ActiveRecord) is building a wrong query for MS SQL-Adapter
Trengodefsdoor no idea, i'll look into that
jstewcrolle17: could be I suppose.
defsdoorTrengo: test lead development fits well into XP
crolle17jstew i will try the same without limitation and i suppose the query will be correctly. let me try it.
defsdoorTrengo: theres an entire web site devoted to it - it's pretty obvious stuff though
Trengodefsdoor yeah i was looking at it, problem isnt doing it, i've done it in the past, its finding managers that can do it
chapelhttp://www.xprogramming.com/
lol
"an Agile Software Development Resource"
:P
defsdoorchapel: Agile is an approach - of with XP fits into
chapelyes
carterparksdamnit, big screen
chapeli was making a subtle joke
carterparks: big not small
defsdoorchapel: a methodology describes the entire deveopment life cycle
_davI kind of think it would be hard to learn agile/xp on your own. You really need to join a shop that's already practicing it. It's a totally different culture you have to acclimate to (like joining a cult :)
chapelyoure right, i just do what i want :P
crolle17jstew ah. no. i tried in my query-analyzer of ms-sql-server. select distinct * from ... is not possible.
defsdoorTrengo: XP just reinforces what everyone already knows - managers are not required ;(
carterparks_dav: lurking in this channel has a way of doing that too
defsdoor_dav: quite difficult to do XP on your own when one of it's main key points is pair programming
jstewstrange crolle17 you would think that such a common SQL construct would be supported.
Trengodefsdoor try telling that to BOAs and VPs
actionchapel afk
chapelafk
jstewXP probably makes you a better coder.
