chapelit takes a brain to use it
haha, heres innovation, the search engine that knows what you want
lol
honestly that could be done, but the only way would be to tie into whatever os youre using
and monitor everything you do
jstewthat would be doubleplusgood chapel
chapelwith some advanced algorithms it could predict what youre going to search for
since humans are very much habitual
but thats a little much invasion of privacy, well not like it matters anymore
crolle17is it possible to pass the option distinct to select using ActiveRecord::Base.find?
jstewcrolle17: yes, use the :select option
It's either :select => "distinct *" or :select => "distinct" I can't remember which right now.
crolle17jstew o.k. i will try it
chapelquestion, when it comes to agile development, it seems that it mostly relates to working for someone else, doing a project for an outside source, how does it relate for internal stuff, for your own ideas?
crolle17jstew i tried both, but both didn't work.
jstewcrolle17: can you look at your logs to see the SQL that was generated?
crolle17jstew i do so.
jstew: ...selected as DISTINCT.: SELECT distinct TOP 5 * FROM vorgang WHERE ...
chapelIf we see a class as a restaurant, your illustration makes sense. But from my point of view, we dont know the name of the restaurant, nor its menu. We just sit and cry for Spaghetti!, and sometimes the
waiter says Im sorry.
http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-talk/239696
crolle17with just only :select => "distinct" the "*" is missing
jstew besides i also use :limit - option
jstewok. Does it throw an error?
crolle17jstew yes i posted it.
jstewSELECT TOP.... a MSSQL thing?
zachinglisHey. Quick Q. How do I remove all <!-- comments --> and spaces from my variable?
_davchapel, i starting doing XP (agile) dev in July at a RoR shop. Hardcore implementation of it: 95% pair programming, test driven, short iteration, retrospectives, standups...
crolle17jstew: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (DBI::DatabaseError: (8163) [FreeTDS][SQL Server]The text, ntext, or image data type cannot be selected as DISTINCT.: SELECT distinct TOP 5 * FROM vorgang WHERE ((LOWER(bez) LIKE '%fun%')) ):
_davIn my personal projects, that translates to just TDD and the occasionaly pairing
chapelyeah
crolle17jstew no, the adapter is mssql
jstewcrolle17: OK so it's an issue withSQL server it appears.
chapelwell im not trying to follow any methodologies, i was just curious
i go my own way
:P
since i have no one to answer too but myself
jstewcan you try :select => "DISTINCT on (blah) *"
I still don't know if it will work, because I'm not familiar with SQL server.
_davi spent 10 years 'cowboy coding' (going my own way), and i thought i was pretty bad ass. Even founded and sold a company doing it that way. Now that I'm doing XP I feel like I was a total amateur before...
