InaraTheKittenhttp://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/rails/index.html
you can buy it as a PDF file
(I did)
which will take you through the steps of setting things up, developing, testing and so on
sampbarInaraTheKitten: was it worth it?
InaraTheKittenhell yeah
I got it while it was still in beta
$ 23.50 for the PDF
sampbarInaraTheKitten: ok - my final (looks a long way off at the moment) is to build a web control panel for hosting
InaraTheKittenyour making a solution that can control various aspects of running a host? like controlling/configuring Apache and MySQL?
sampbarInaraTheKitten: yep
InaraTheKitten: and a user end eventually
InaraTheKittenI see.. well, I'm sure you could use ruby on rails to do that.. perform tasks in the background like editing config files, starting/stopping services and so on
sampbarInaraTheKitten: anyway thats my final aim ive gotta learn the basics yet lol
InaraTheKittenis this going to be used in a commercial hosting enviroment?
where end users can access the solution and configure their domain?
sampbarInaraTheKitten: if its good enough - if not im gonna do it then open it up for people to modify (opensourcE)
Phoopsampbar: Take a look at slicehost, they did it for Xen :)
sampbarPhoop: ok
PhoopAlso a RoR app, ajax console to access your machine when you did something really stupid ;)
InaraTheKittenanyone have any experience with TextDrive (accelerator) or Engine Yard?
sampbar:D thats good - im always mucking up some how lol

PhoopI heard some strange stories about TextDrive. Ive a VPS now, very easy to setup with deprec and its all yours! :)
InaraTheKittenwell, the shared hosting has been good to me.. but I'm going to use their Accelerator service for my RoR project
I'll start off on a 1/16 slice, then upgrade as my project grows
PhoopAah slicehost, good choice :)
InaraTheKittennot really what I said, but oh well
PhoopOh, I read 1/16 slice :P
"slice"
InaraTheKittenwow! slicehost is cheap
Phoop: you like slicehost?
bryanli like slicehost
no problems so far
