jeremydurhampstickne: do this:
Rappermasit's rough out here today
jeremydurhampstickne: start up a irb, check how much ram it ses
pstickne: then start requiring stuff, and watch it go up
mattjeetRappermas: setting up ror environment now
Rappermasummm...ok, some of us are still running SVR4
jeremydurhampstickne: and that's basically where you're at with ruby; the whole rails framework is loaded into memory by ruby
psticknejeremydurham, right, I'm not debating that RoR is huge ;)
jeremydurhambjut it's not a "rails problem"
psticknejeremydurham, I'm saying that the server has a huge footprint because it is huge :)
jeremydurhamruby could handle it in other ways, which they don't
psticknejeremydurham, yes it is. If RoR was a microframework it would be different.
jeremydurham, anyway, with all that aside... :)
jeremydurhamyes, if rails was completely different, and not all the way it is, then yes, its' a rails problem
actionRappermas is now coding for the competition: Python on Poles
Rappermasis now coding for the competition: Python on Poles
psticknejeremydurham, if it was possible to do a late-fork via a server and some kind of fcgi (controller server/client) and see how much of that could/would remain shared
jeremydurhamgood luck getting it all to fit into 4 megs of ram
psticknejeremydurham, when did I say it needed to?
jeremydurhampstickne: well, there's a good source, you can ask him :)
pstickne: I don't know how late-forking works so I can't help ya there.. sounds interesting and fun
pstickneIf the codepages were touched though *shrug*, I've just been tossing it around but I really need to sit down and work on a test impl.
michaelbrynegreetings all, i have a question that im wondering if someone can help me with
is it possible to call a function from one controller inside another?
psticknemichaelbryne, that generally means your thinking is silly
jeremydurhammichaelbryne: you don't wanna do that
michaelbrynehmmn, im thinking that also
psticknemichaelbryne, yes, it's possible with tricks. no, it's likely not correct.
bitsweatmm fork
coder2000anyone have experience with the tests for restful_authentication?
pstickneI'm currently working on a Ruby<->Emacs interface, I'm going to try and port ri-mode one of these days.
Rappermasit's such a PITA to develop applications from the command line
i always get jealous of all the OS X guys
mattjeetRappermas: k, i set up with apache2/mysql for ruby but after i create this jail flavor, i'll do a few more ;)
lmao
jcasimirAnyone know if there is a way to do a multiple level :through? For instance, let's say this: (A has many C through B), (C has many E through D). Is there any way to be able to say A.Es?
jeremydurhamAkuma_: || will give you an error because it evals var, which doesn't exist
tpopebut the way you use them in partials, you don't want to assign it
jeremydurhamAkuma_: but I've gotta go, seriously. brb
tpopeyou just want || but it errors
`davohello again, everyone
