marcin_antkosh: it is nice but has hardware requirements simmilar to java + tomcat or jboss
sproingietomcat is very lightweight
it starts up in less than half a second on my 2 year old laptop
marcin_antsproingie: tomcat???
koshzope starts up in about 1-2 s on our machines and faster on my dev box
sproingiezope's not terribly slow to start up either
marcin_antsproingie: I definetly should test new version - afair tomcat can eat every piece of RAM I got
koshhow much ram do you have?
marcin_ant1gb currently
koshalso I have seen zope servers eat up 20x the ram that mine do, mostly because of abysmal code
marcin_antI want to put this to pretty old server with 2,4 PIV cpu
koshI suspect the same is true of tomcat that memory usage is almost entirely dependent on what code it is running
sproingiezope isn't too slow far as i've seen. it does get pretty porky tho
marcin_antI got much faster workstation with c2d and 3gb ram but it's not going to work as server
sproingiememory use is actually the really deciding factor, most web apps are i/o bound anyway
tomcat is faster than resin these days
koshone of the problems I see with peoples apps is they are written in a way that they use vastly more memory then they should
marcin_antsproingie: I had zope with zenoss on 1,3 GHz tualatin PIII with 1gb ram and it was killing this machine
koshthat really hurts
I don't know what zenoss is
sproingiewell lots of apps use XML api's
including DOM
marcin_antkosh: zenoss.org open source SNMP monitoring tool
kosh: I had zenoss in LAN with 40 machines and had more trouble with this than profits from this application
anyway so - for static content I got apache2
and for dynamic content I need pretty fast and not bloated python application server
koshmarcin_ant: probably an app design problem then
sproingiezope out of the box isn't too bloaty
sevardso question....
sproingiebut most zope products really suck
koshmarcin_ant: we have sites that are served by lower end machines then that without issues
marcin_antthat could be "independent" I mean not related with some more or less ugly framework
koshsproingie: yup most zope products are pretty bad and most people that write their own do an abysmal job
sevardif you have a try and a for loop in that try, and an except that catches errnos below that, the loop breaks because an errno (say permission denied on open) how do I go back INTO the loop?
koshsproingie: however I would say the same thing about people that use rdbs on their sites
sevardcontinue or return won't work because the except is outside of the loop
sproingiekosh: yah people never seem to consider the memory footprint of a mysql process that does nothing but serve up their site
koshsproingie: I have replaced sites and gotten them to run about 1M times faster on zope then the rdb systems that it replaced
sproingiekosh: so zope gets billed unfairly
Jabapythsevard: you dont :(
