PerlJammuggle: If that $tmp is only used within the body of that for loop, you should declare it there.
muggle: Keep your declaration and first use as close as possible.
ew73You also might want to be a little more paranoid about the values of $version, $middleware, etc.
PerlJammuggle: as an alternate representation (not better or worse) try using join() to create $tmp
