#perl - Tue 27 Mar 2007 between 13:11 and 13:19

rick[lvd]i found activeperl to be pretty straightforward
HarzileinBinGOs: and off it goes... thx
Ani-_Harzilein: It's not completly independant.
HarzileinAni-_: but i can safely disable it and just use cpan?
Ani-_Harzilein: PPM provides pre-build packages for Activeperl.
HarzileinAni-_: ppm doesn't have the package i am interested in anyway
Ani-_Harzilein: are you using windows?
Harzilein: did you check http://kobesearch.cpan.org/ ?
HarzileinAni-_: i want to program something windows-users will use and thought i should know how it works first
Ani-_: no, what's that? i use search.cpan.org usually
Ani-_Harzilein: if you are using windows then you can only use CPAN if you have a) nmake and b) depending on what you are installing a C compiler.
Harzilein: most people on Windows have neither of those two. That's why PPM exists.
HarzileinAni-_: can i use it with mingw32 or do i have to use cygwin?
Ani-_Harzilein: kobesearch lists PPM repository servers that have the package you want
HarzileinAni-_: oh, nice :)=
dazjorzcore: Test::More
buubotTest::More was added to Perl5.007003
HarzileinAni-_: i'll check if they have it, though it might be quite unix-specific (Mozilla::Mechanize)
CaelumI think the later activeperls support building modules with mingw
and you can always use strawberry perl
hardeharrHArrok
is php beter for webs tuff than perl and if so why?
what up with this stuff?
Caelumno, it's not
hardeharrHArrpython tcl ruby perl
ok
how about aolserveR+tcl
aolserver supposed to fly
Caelumtcl is not a good programming language
HarzileinCaelum: nice, i'll look for documentation on that
hardeharrHArrok
so perl kicks ass for web and is better than tcl
jonsmith1982php has some advantages
hardeharrHArrhttp://philip.greenspun.com/wtr/aolserver/introduction-1.html
this guy says aolserver dominates over mod_perl
