maashamerlyn: are you suggesting any databases in particular?
merlynsqlite for little stuff, postgresql for big stuff
GaijinPunchOr people who's providers only provide mysql
merlynproviders are a dime a dozen
if you have a provider stuck int he 90s, move
revdiablos/who's/whose/ # pet peeve
garywsmithWoosta: it could have been done in 2 tables but since a couple of the fields are text fields we opted to move them out of the primary table. This added a singinificant performance increase for reads since the text fields are for archive purposes, they are hardly ever used.
imMutesqlite is pretty nifty
GaijinPunchmoving takes work. Work takes time. Not everyone has it. Some people still have source from the 90's as well.
Woostaahh cool
revdiablo2 tables... 50 million records... yikes
merlyn"who's" is valid... as "who is"
garywsmithimmute: I use sqlight for a couple differnet small projects. it works great.
revdiablomerlyn: Yes, but in the sentence he should have used "whose"
merlynyes
jsut trying to show it's not a universal rule
revdiabloYeah, but it triggers my OCD when people use them incorrectly.
garywsmithrevdiablo: that's why we split it up a little. But it seems to work fine. It's mostly data warehousing (not really transactional).
Woostamerlyn's been defelonated so he's even more crotchety now :)
erxz_paste"Jmax-" at 71.6.194.243 pasted "POE _child errors" (55 lines) at http://erxz.com/pb/1618
merlynex-exfelon!
revdiablogarywsmith: A lot of things work fine in a suboptimal state =)
Jmax-does that mean anything to anyone? i'm clueless with what a _child event is even supposed to look like :\
revdiablogarywsmith: I have not analyzed your design, so I don't really know if it is suboptimal, I'm just pointing out that as a faulty argument
garywsmith: I guess I should just be happy for you that it works ;)
garywsmithoh, yes, I agree. We are working to optimize it. It's a mysql db powered by a php frontend. We are working to clean up some stuff. Moving some processes to perl and eventually splut the database up a little (since we can move some of the old historical data elsewhere).
Jmax-... or why i need one
Khisanthnever done so for me
luckily I haven't had a need for it much
zamolxesI always end up editing the files in debian/ a lot anyways :)
