rmahTeal_Stallion: between $5k/yr to $50k/yr
jpegforsaken: there's example code in perldoc -f crypt. However, that's a horrible idea.
rmahwhich is what any programmer makes, starting out
Teal_Stallion$5k/yr...damn
rmahTeal_Stallion: life's harsh in china and india
Teal_Stallionwell...in the united states i mean
rmahactually, they probably start out better there. life's harsh in bulgaria
in the US, assuming a related degree, $50k to $60k
with a few lucky ducks making more
forsakenjpeg, hrm, okay
rmahwhy this focus on starting salary? that's meaningless
forsakenjpeg, it will (hopefully) be a web-based interface tho, so i can't use the login script
Teal_Stallionjust curious
rmahTeal_Stallion: after 5 or 10 years, a programmer can be making as little as $40k or as much as $120k
it really depends on who you are, where you work, who you work for, etc.
thrigwhose funds you launder, whose corporate ladder you claw up
Teal_Stallionwhat really pisses me off
rhizoforsaken: you're going to have to find out what it is, PAM, Kerberos, etc.
rmahTeal_Stallion: what pisses you off?
Teal_Stallionthe language i am the best at...perl...is not offered at many colleges
rmahTeal_Stallion: thank god for that
Teal_Stallionhow is that good?? lol
forsakenrhizo, i have SSH access, is there a good way to tell without having to email the admin?
Khisanthheh
rmahTeal_Stallion: my university offered exactly ZERO courses in any specific language
rodrickbrownnTeal_Stallion, once you learn to code you can write anything
rmahit was assumed we'd pick it up on our own
rodrickbrownndont focus on the language just learn the fundamentals
cfeddeCS as Vocational training.
rmah"Welcome to Expert Systems 101. In this class, we'll be using Lisp and Prolog. Learn them by next week."
that was pretty typical for our courses
languages come and go. the concepts you express with them are forever
cfeddeI tutored lots of people who were writing pascal programs in lisp.
Khisanthrmah: when was the last time you checked the starting salary for China? :)
cfeddeKinda silly actualy.
rodrickbrownnluckly most of my CS courses gives us the option to use C++,C# or Java
rmahKhisanth: never, but I know a few people who outsource development there (on both sides)
so I extrapolated
killer_can someone tell me when I would use $sth->do vs $sth->execute ? perldoc DBI doesn't clarify it
Khisanthrmah: cousin just finished college and there appears to be a huge gap :)
