rmahxand: do you think paining your walls is "wasteful"?
do you think we should fire all graphic designers?
Limbic_Regionrmah - I almost entirely agree with you and I was wrong to switch gears without indicating I was mentally changing topics
actionsomian stands back to back with rmah this time, in advocating an unpopular position

rmahLimbic_Region: no sweat man
jpegrmah: it's a question of necessity.
rmahjpeg: necessity?!??!!?
Limbic_Regionrmah - I personally trace all email related problems back to its origin
rmahfood and warmth are necessities.
everything else is a luxury
xandbut html makes email *worse*
rmahxand: I think it makes it better
xandyou think wrong! :P
rmahbecause you can be more expressive with dimensions beyond plain text
it's the same reason you don't print books with typewriters
xandno it's not
rmahyes it is
xandthat wouldn't be practical
rmahsure it would
somianxand, let me ask you this. do you only ever program using an editor without any syntax highlighting?
jpegman, that's got to be tedious to write email.
xandtype writers are too slow and poor quality
rmahjpeg: I meant fixed-space fonts with no typesetting, or graphics
pavi understand how matched groups in a regexp are assigned to $1, $2... variables... but if i run a search-and-replace regexp for all occurences, i can only get in $1, $2 the last matched expression right? so if it occured multiple times i can get only one (last) of those?
xandsomian: no, but I don't see how that's related
rmahxand: then you make me sad
somianxand: it's intimately related.
rmahxand: most likely, you just "hate HTML email" because you think it's cool to be a luddite while involved in a high-tech field
xandnope
rmahso much of that sort of attitude these days
it's freaky and weird
xandI am freaky and weird... what's your point? :P
somianxand: it's the same issue. there are certain aspects of human perceptual faculties that are the result of inborn neurological traits and there are those which are learned; in any case, different people process visual information (particularly textual) differently.
jpegI'll admit to that. All my friends admire me for using mutt. Seriously. I mention that I don't use HTML for email and the chicks come home with me. Because, you know, it's cool.

rmahjpeg: damn!
actionxand wishes it was the 1980s in terms of email
xandwishes it was the 1980s in terms of email
jpegsee what you're missing out on?
all the cool kids use plain text.
maukeI use kde's graphical mail client, and I still don't like html mail
