<Skiz> nothing but beads! woo
<wangslanger> I bet #javadev doesn't have beads
<wangslanger> Proof positive that rails is better.
<carterparks> java isn't hip enough
<Skiz> it would take java gurus 3 weeks to write a Bead class
<carterparks> :-)
<sixty4bit> Skiz: if you knew the hoops I was having to jump through on my project
<carterparks> its so funny because if you told that to anyone normal
<carterparks> they'd look at you very awkwardly
<wangslanger> in the last ACM competition, one of the teams were using java
<wangslanger> er
<wangslanger> was
<wangslanger> they spent more time huddled over the keyboard pounding out code than any other team, and had hardly anything to show for it
<Skiz> yeah kind of like when we were playing poker a few weeks ago and drinking session, and I was like 'aw.. looks like my session has expired' and 1 person got it.
<carterparks> :-)
<sixty4bit> LOL
<locellcount> OT again, but I've got my server to the point that it won't allow mail relays but will allow people to send email to users on my domain via my smtp... of which there is only me. Is this an acceptable situation? Am I in danger of having my server usurped?
<carterparks> locellcount: i already sent out 10 million viagra emails out using y our server
<locellcount> carterparks: damn.
<Skiz> carterparks: stop it you are making my nigerian bank emails get queued up
<wangslanger> turn off no recipient responses, just in case
<locellcount> using postfix (or sendmail, since if I remove sendmail things stop working) so how do I do that?
<wangslanger> let me dig up a manpage
<wangslanger> (or thirty... :-( )
<wangslanger> http://www.postfix.org/BACKSCATTER_README.html
<locellcount> seriously, all I want to do is send out confirmation emails. Rails makes that so damned easy, why can't everything else follow suit? Is there a service where you can control the domain of emails you send out?
<locellcount> reading
<danfo> hmm, can i do a... double :through on :has_many?
<Skiz> neipe
<danfo> ie, a product has many vouchers through discount, applied discount
<Skiz> danfo: I'd think you would want to attack that from the order model
<wangslanger> locellcount: i've heard of good results with qmail
<Skiz> order has the products, and the vouchers which the order provides calculated total with discount
<danfo> Skiz: vouchers here are just groups of discounts that have set start and end dates
<Skiz> right but if you added them to the order your order model can provide updated amounts that arent directlly through the product
<danfo> hmm. ok.
<locellcount> wangslanger: I think someone was bitching about that the other day.
<Skiz> I never did like qmail too much
<Skiz> after I finally sat down with exim (and vexim for vhosting) I was happy.
<wangslanger> so you're just needing to send mail from this box, incoming doesn't matter?
<wangslanger> skiz: exim looks interesting
<locellcount> wangslanger: nope, I can set up a forwarding account for that
<wangslanger> so why not just firewall 25?
<locellcount> wangslanger: doesn't outgoing mail use that port?
<wangslanger> locell: nope
<locellcount> crap, you mean incoming right?
<wangslanger> yes
<manitoba98xp> Howdy y'all! I'm wondering what the recommended solution for authentication/authorization in Rails is. From what I've heard, acts_as_authenticated is good, but it doesn't do authorization. All I need for authorization is a single role-privilege-based model, where users have roles which have privileges, although it would be nice to be able to assign privileges to individual users. I'd ideally like to be a
<Skiz> manitoba98xp: you may enjoy the authorization plugin if your needs arent too db intensive
<locellcount> wangslanger: so if I go through webmin, and set up an iptables firewall, will that do it?
