<EvilTerran> i'm more of a compsci than a mathematician =/
<Kasadkad> Well if you want I can just tell you the formula :P
<EvilTerran> if you like.
<Kasadkad> N(n) = C(2n, n)/(n+1)
<Kasadkad> where C(n,k) is n choose k
<EvilTerran> any pointers on how one derives such a thing?
<Kasadkad> Well, this is a pretty famous sequence of numbers, the Catalan numbers
<jarmen> looked at generating functions ?
<Kasadkad> There are some clever combinatorial ways of figuring it out
<Kasadkad> But yes, generating functions are really the way to go
<Kasadkad> They aren't difficult either
<Kasadkad> The idea is you use the recurrence to find a function which has your sequence as its Taylor coefficients, then do some stuff to find a formula for the Taylor coefficients
<Trixsey> I have a file.p for matlab
<Trixsey> How can I open and edit it?
<Kasadkad> Anyway I'm going to sleep
<EvilTerran> ok, thanks
<EvilTerran> Kasadkad++
<Kasadkad> np
<Trixsey> My dear lady and gentlemen!
<Jafet> is this one of those many-on-one dirty parties?
<Trixsey> haha ya
<Trixsey> figured there'd be one girl here
<Trixsey> TOPS
<Trixsey> so I said it to be sure to include that possible girl
<Trixsey> lol
<Jafet> only one? man, you're shure pessimistic
<Jafet> more of you people around and we're sure to whittle that number down further
<Trixsey> hahahhaa
<Trixsey> I
<Trixsey> pfft
<Trixsey> I'm a realist
<Jafet> you forgot to mention mbot as well...
<Trixsey> lol
<Jafet> it's in a class of its own
<Trixsey> Well, I would put you in my category of people I'm in love with if you helped me out ;D
<Trixsey> I consider myself good looking too, so it wouldn't be all that bad for you ;)
<Jafet> hurry up
<Jafet> dammit
<Trixsey> hahaha
<arctanx> what, before someone direct you two to #not-math? :P
<Trixsey> let me pastebin it :p
<Trixsey> http://www.pastebin.ca/363445
<Trixsey> a script to count chars in given matrix of strings
<Trixsey> works, but now I'd like to sort them
<Trixsey> should I add the two matrix?
<Trixsey> so I get like
<Trixsey> 'chars'5
<Trixsey> 'test'4
<Jafet> groan... this isn't exactly a programming language channel
<Trixsey> but there is no matlab channel.. and this is math! :(
