<apt> The next major revision of KDE -- KDE 4.0 -- will be released when it's ready, not before. We don't know when that will be. It will most likely be in 2007 or 2008, but it could be also 2009 or later.
<troy> ejm: well 'soon' is a relative word :)
<Maki> when
<AlexElliott> troy, get another monitor, dualhead rocks ;D
<thagirsu> troy: i've started kde with xinerama (startx -- +xinerama) and nothing happens :(
<troy> thagirsu: yes, because it won't run with twinview...
<thagirsu> AlexElltiott: fullscreen one one screen :))
<ejm> well, I tried to get the new beta, and it conflicted with YaST--I would've had to uninstall a lot of stuff that I use once in a while, but is necessary for SuSE.
<AlexElliott> Yeah, it goes fullscreen on one monitor
<troy> ejm: that's not a beta
<AlexElliott> With seperate x session + xinerama
<troy> ejm: that's not even an alpha - it's a tech preview release... things are that stable yet :)
<ejm> that's what I was meaning. I get the terms mixed up.
<troy> ejm: so month (I'd guess just under a year) away...
<AlexElliott> ejm, if you don't want to develop for KDE4 I'd wait before installing
<ejm> oh wait nv.
<ejm> I tried the second one, and it didn't last long.
<AlexElliott> At the moment I'm told it looks pretty much exactly the same as KDE3 (bar a few developed applications) but glitches more ;)
<ejm> probably
<troy> AlexElliott: well, kdesktop is gone entirely already... right now it's a black screen
<thagirsu> hm strange , so i don't undestand why it runs under kunbuntu with twinview
<AlexElliott> Haha, even better!
<troy> thagirsu: kubuntu may have patched their X
<thagirsu> troy: how can i find it out ?
<AlexElliott> It's the buntu folks, of course they've patched it :/
<troy> thagirsu: you can look at http://packages.ubuntu.com/ to find the patch files they used to create their pacakges... usually you have to read the code to find out what they did
<AlexElliott> thagirsu, what's the problem with xinerama + seperate sessions? Do they not do something?
<thagirsu> AlexElliott: i don't now .. i've not tested it yet , but i'll do so right now ..:)
<troy> AlexElliott: I think it's that with multiple sessions, the graphics card memory is not continuous across the screens, making moving from one to the other slower...
<troy> AlexElliott: that's the only thing I can think of anyway...
<thagirsu> i've read something that xinerama is not good with opengl , thats the reason i don't have tested it
<troy> thagirsu: that would be a good reason not to use it, but I think many of those problems are no going away...
<troy> s/no/now
<AlexElliott> I can't say I've noticed any slowdown
<P-Luc_Auclair> logixoul "P-Luc_Auclair: konqueror in trunk supports opacity" trunk is KDE4 or 3.5.6? or something else
<logixoul> P-Luc_Auclair: KDE 4
<P-Luc_Auclair> 'k thanks
<logixoul> np
<logixoul> g'night
<P-Luc_Auclair> nite
<thagirsu> k sepperate x screen runs, but is there any chance to move windows from one screen to the other ?
<AlexElliott> With xinerama enabled you should be able to
<thagirsu> i see yes , but then i've the old problem with one big screen .:D
<troy> thagirsu: with xinerama, kwin should be able to tell the differences between screens...
<AlexElliott> No, when you maximise it maximises into one monitor with xinerama
<uFo-Z> hi all. if i start kopete, i cant see a icon in my taskbar. well, there was one some hours aggo but atm i never get a small icon of any app wich supports that
<AlexElliott> Even if you have the window on both monitors when you maximise it, it'll pick one and maximise to that monitor's boundaries
<uFo-Z> anybody could tell me wich programm is doing that ?
<thagirsu> AlexElltiott: with sepperate and enable Xinerama (in nvidia settings) it maximise over both screens ..
<thagirsu> same as twinview
