#kde
<PhilRod> building from trunk won't (I have both installed here with no problems)
<tbscope> revelation_: no, it won't, you can run kde4 next to kde3
<PhilRod> distro packages might. Depends on how crazy the packager was/is
<chavo> kubuntu has packages
<revelation_> thank you :) - so I'll try (there are packages for my distro btw)
<jinks> PhilRod: yes, he can
<PhilRod> jinks: ok, that's a useful data point
<nick01> PhilRod, that ogg123 gives errors when dealing with wavs :( no good
<PhilRod> revelation_: if you're expecting to find things that aren't working that you can help out with, you'll be pleased
<troy> revelation_: I'd suggest using a separate user from kde3 and kde 4 though so that you don't get config files clashing with each other...
<PhilRod> if you're trying to be the first kid on your block with shiny new features, you might be less pleased :-)
<PhilRod> nick01: mplayer ftw then
<jinks> PhilRod: i was experimenting with themes. and at one point, when i restarted X, KDE reverted the decorations from Crystal to Default and Crystal was off the list of available decorations
<nick01> PhilRod, isn't that a bit heavy for playing ogg /wav files ?
<PhilRod> probably not to the extent that you'd notice it
<jinks> i had even removed my whole ~/.kde/ dir since then but that bit didnt change
<revelation_> PhilRod: I'm a developer and want to check, whether my programs run on KDE4 or not ;) - But I'll report all bugs I come across
<PhilRod> revelation_: ah, you're exactly the target audience then :-)
<nick01> oh well I'm beginning to wonder if removing arts was such a great idea
<thiago> it was
<thiago> for KDE 4, that is
<thiago> in KDE 3, it's part of KDE and the default and only supported sound server
<G0su> Hello, one question please, i am using the Kdevelop, but when i compile it said: *** AUTOCONF NOT FOUND!. || *** KDE requires autoconf 2.53 or newer || but i have Autoconf 2.63 in my sistem :S
<nick01> thiago, in kde 3.5.6 any suggestion what to replace it with ? a bit less heavy then mplayer maybe ?
<sredna> G0su: try in #kdevelop
<nick01> thiago, for system sounds
<PhilRod> thiago: he means "removing it on my system"
<nick01> yup :|
<G0su> sredna, ok thanks i didnt know this channel ;)
<tafsen> Is the Lisa daemon for sharing files between Linux computers?
<sredna> :)
<johny_1234> is there anyone from bay area CA ?
<slyfox> sredna: you did not vote http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142160
<sredna> slyfox: cut/paste asks, as a workaround
<sredna> slyfox: the missing ability to *see* where an object comes from is more crucial imo
<slyfox> sredna: Did you post that comment there too ?
<sredna> no
<slyfox> sredna: you should
<slyfox> sredna: But if you color code the calendar, then you see where it is coming from ?
<sredna> slyfox: events, not TODOs
<slyfox> ah yes
<sredna> according to some other bugs, all my TODOs are in my own calendar
<nick01> PhilRod, any way to make those notifications work with esd ?
<sredna> although i think KDE should use calendars for TODO lists and release schedules
<jinks> PhilRod: ah.. got the decorations working... looks like i managed to restart X several times but it never came to me to do a complete re-login :)
<sredna> stupid widget
<pete> http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4342/snapshot1lv0.png <== remind you of anything?
<sredna> pete: that stock KDE rocks
<pete> sredna: That's the theme a guy I know is using. I hate how he made it look like Vista -_-
<pete> The theme's creator, that is.
