#gentoo
<pekster> wifiisevil: Actually, I don't think it makes a difference what your arch is as the kernel sources are the same either way
<edit_lp2> BLuFFaLo, just befor the last section,
<dragonheart> wifiisevil: http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/genpatches/patches-2.6.19-5.htm
<guille> How do I take out a package from world? I don't want it to be updated anymore
<dragonheart> guille: emerge -C
<wifiisevil> please tell me what I must download is small..
<wifiisevil> as in <50mb small.
<edit_lp2> BLuFFaLo, you have also made a typo
<jack_deltrino> i've had koffice-libs fail on me continuously for at least the past six months (x86 with emerge --sync run daily on a reasonably powerful machine). it cause emerge -uDNav worlds to fail all the time. any reason why that's the case? i'm using stable kde packages
<lng> what .in extension stay for?
<wifiisevil> what is the link you sent me to?
<pekster> wifiisevil: The patches are small, and the kernel tarball should be reasonable, although I'm not sure offhand if it's over or under 50MB, bit it's around there I think
<DrEeevil> jack_deltrino: how does it fail?
<edit_lp2> Identifyer "gefroce 4 mx lol" BLuFFaLo...
<DrEeevil> wifiisevil: kernel is ~35MB
<edit_lp2> change to ---
<wifiisevil> oooh that is quite a lot.
<wifiisevil> ah well.
<edit_lp2> Identifyer "geforce 4 mx lol" BLuFFaLo...
<BLuFFaLo> under that section is where i put it?
<dragonheart> wifiisevil: yes- if you have a 2.6.19 vanilla linux kernel thats the main bit - about 42meg. the link is the difference from the vanilla linux.org kernel
<Drakonen> ugh.. the gf4 mx is crap
<edit_lp2> BLuFFaLo, yes, and fix your typo's
<renihs> re
<renihs> BLuFFaLo, not yet
<DrEeevil> Drakonen: it's a perfect card for day-to-day office use
<edit_lp2> renihs, im onit
<wifiisevil> okay, dragonheart, what was that link? kernel patches? Don't I need the kernel first..?:S
<Drakonen> thats true
<renihs> edit_lp2, mkay
<BLuFFaLo> edit_lp2 okay one sec
<edit_lp2> +=P
<jack_deltrino> DrEeevil: It's some compilation issue that /var/log/emerge.log doesn't specify
<DrEeevil> Drakonen: I'd love to get a PCI-Express GeForce 2
<edit_lp2> lol
<Drakonen> wel a gf4 mx actually is a gf2
<DrEeevil> jack_deltrino: well ... it must throw some error ... try to reproduce it please and paste the error at rafb.net/paste or any other pastebin
<wifiisevil> 1. Get kernel (from where?). 2. Put on usb. 3. Get patches tarball. 3. Put on usb. 4. Move to distfiles? 5. emerge..?
<Drakonen> DrEeevil: you can use a pci one
<DrEeevil> Drakonen: not completely, and pci is dying
<doc|home> can the hardware conversation go to #hardware please
<BLuFFaLo> edit_lp2 so i fixed geforce 4 mx lol to geforce 4 mx
<DrEeevil> Drakonen: I don't want a 50W GeForce 7300 when I never use it
<BLuFFaLo> is that what you meant?
<dragonheart> wifiisevil: yes. the other patches on the url are about 200k. You can get the kernel from http://www.kernel.org/ - just need the 2.6.19 version. if you have a previous version you may want to use the version (e.g. 2.6.18) to version diffs
<Drakonen> a friend of mine used a pci gf2mx
<romanos> ellinas?
<guille> dragonheart, Thanks
<jack_deltrino> DrEeevil: ugh, it takes a while to compile, but okay... doesn't emerge dump errors somewhere? if it doesn't, it should be modified to do so
<BLuFFaLo> and then i paste the extra lines in jut under there?
