<pekster> endra: You can also edit that file by hand and use line-returns to seperate hosts rather than spaces (makes it a lot easier to read)
<wifiisevil> jwickers: oh.
<variant> lo all, I have disabled root logins in /etc/securetty. Do I have to reboot to have this take affect?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: you type "emerge -pv gentoo-sources" check the version in your portage tree
<endra> pekster: on my good machine, I have localhost, on my bad machine, I have the good machine
<wifiisevil> confusing :S. alright.
<pekster> endra: If it's just the remote box, that's what I'd recommend, becuase that will prevent the slow PC from compiling anything locally, which is bound to slow things down at that speed
<wifiisevil> I'll just start by downloading kernel.
<jwickers> wifiisevil: which one ?
<endra> pekster: I dont believe its working, I still see nothing in distcc monitor
<pekster> endra: Also, if you have no more PC's on your network, I'd disable distcc completely from make.conf on your good box, as using it is useless
<wifiisevil> where do I get the kernel?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: only once you get the version that WOULD be installed you can actually download it
<wifiisevil> I have a amd64
<pekster> endra: Even if jobs aren't getting distributed you should still see the localhost compiles in distccmon
<endra> I do have another really bad box that I want to have my good box compile for
<wifiisevil> an amd64 two processors so.. smp kernel?
<pekster> endra: Do you have FEATURES="distcc" in your /etc/make.conf ?
<wifiisevil> I'd prefer 2.6.18
<jwickers> wifiisevil: you type "emerge -pv gentoo-sources" ?
<endra> pekster: yes, on both machines
<wifiisevil> oh and that tells me?
<pekster> endra: I suggest taking that out of your good machine, because you don't want jobs to get distributed when you compile on the good one; only the bad one
<endra> On the good machine, -j2 is fine?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: the version you need, then check in the ebuild
<pekster> endra: Anyway, that's not important. You should see something in distccmon, even if jobs don't get distributed
<endra> pekster; I only see a blank screen
<NightKhaos> mzbot: wiki britishseapower ndiswrapper
<mzbot> britishseapower: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Wireless_Configuration_and_Startup
<lt2k1> don't you have to set some environment variable in order to be able to see it?
<pekster> endra: Are you invoking it like: DISTCC_DIR="/var/tmp/portage/.distcc" distccmon-text 1 ?
<lt2k1> yeah, that's it
<endra> I am using distccmon-gui
<endra> I simply did "distccmon-gui &"
<[Phaedrus]> hmm...
<pekster> endra: Then did you call it: DISTCC_DIR="/var/tmp/portage/.distcc" distccmon-gui ?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: in fact if you try to "emerge gentoo-sources" you should see the url it would try to get
<NightKhaos> mzbot: wiki britishseapower 3com wireless
<mzbot> britishseapower: http://gentoo-wiki.com/LTSP_Client
<endra> I will now set DISTCC_DIR in make.conf
<[Phaedrus]> Question: It seems to take emerge --sync a long time and its on "Checking Server Timestamp" for a while now. Is that normal?
<pekster> endra: Not make.conf
<endra> What difference will it make?
<pekster> endra: You need it in the enviornment of what you call the distccmon from, not make.conf's scope
<endra> ah, okay.
<pekster> endra: make.conf != your current shell envrionment
<BJT> can i ask a PHP question here?
<endra> okay.
<pekster> endra: As for the difference, it'll make all the difference of showing you what it's doing verses showing you blankness :P
