<Crypticfortune> crzydrnkmofo: thanks very much!
<crzydrnkmofo> moreon, yeah scrolling is easy with XChat, lol gotta love copy and paste
<crzydrnkmofo> Crypticfortune, true thanks goes to moreon cuz he helped me first
<wifiisevil> well I don't plan on learning chinese!! No, vietnamese doesn't count as an asian language as far as computing goes, because it uses european accents. However, it uses ALL of the european accents, which most languages don't.
<wifiisevil> well a lot anyway.
<Crypticfortune> moreon, crzydrnkmofo: well thank you both ^^
<britishseapower> how come the command "emerge fluxbox" doesnt seem to pull in xorg?
<GaijinPunch> I have a laptop w/ a really crapp NIC. For some reason, it will not resolve hostnames. Is there a way to make my Linux box act as a DNS conduit. I don't want to have a full on DNS server via bind... just something that will make the DSN requests & forward them.
<moreon> britishseapower: because xorg-x11 is modularized now. you should explicitly emerge xorg-x11
<NightKhaos> britishseapower: maybe because xorg is already installed?
<moreon> britishseapower: it should pull in part of it, but won't get the full thing.
<wifiisevil> ah who cares, I'll install vietnamese later.
<britishseapower> ok...that explains it !
<britishseapower> so i need to do it seperataely...
<britishseapower> 1st emerge xorg-x11....then flux
<crzydrnkmofo> should i emerge xorg-server or should i just emerge kde-meta and let that work ?
<NightKhaos> britishseapower: or the other way around.
<britishseapower> ok...thanks.
<NightKhaos> crzydrnkmofo: see what we were talking to about britishseapower
<wifiisevil> yay, I'm up to configuring kernel! Almost done :D:D
<crzydrnkmofo> NightKhaos, yes i see it, thats why i asked i know its modularized now
<crzydrnkmofo> and thats why i have VIDEO_CARDS and INPUT_DEVICES etc in my make.conf ;)
<jwickers> wifiisevil: i guess the locale would be vi_VN.UTF-8
<jwickers> wifiisevil: but, you should not set it as your locale
<jwickers> wifiisevil: if you only plan for vietnaese typing/reading support, any UTF-8 locale is good
<jwickers> wifiisevil: else you get vietnamese locate (date format, currency, translated application)
<wifiisevil> oh crap, to get the kernel you must use emerge :(
<wifiisevil> lol don't want that.
<NightKhaos> wifiisevil: why not?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: so use en_US.UTF-8
<wifiisevil> eh.. because I don't speak vietnames? -yet-
<wifiisevil> so how do I get the kernel without emerge?
<jwickers> wifiisevil: why can't you use emerge ?
<britishseapower> how can i check if my PCMCIA wifi card is working? iwconfig doesn't show it so far (new-ISH install)
<wifiisevil> :@ for a guide on networkless install, this SURE does cator to people without a network :@:@
<crzydrnkmofo> wifiisevil, umm i dont think u do unless your doing a total stage 3 install
<NightKhaos> wifiisevil: I thought you were referring to the kernel.
<wifiisevil> jwickers: I don't have an internet connection on my gentoo box.
<jwickers> wifiisevil: so what you have the grp no ?
<crzydrnkmofo> so then isnt there something about setting the source dir to the cd drive or something ?
<wifiisevil> ooh yes, I've heard of grp.
<crzydrnkmofo> I would use the Gentoo Installer ;)
<wifiisevil> So how do I do this grp? Where is the manual I will need?
<wifiisevil> crzydrnkmofo: yeah, tried that. It doesn't like me :'(
<jwickers> wifiisevil: so use emerge -G
<crzydrnkmofo> wifiisevil, yeah i NEVER liked it either i prefer the by hand way
<wifiisevil> '< .... .... |__
<wifiisevil> ......
<crzydrnkmofo> actually if they still allowed (and supported) it i would prefer stage1 installs ;)
<zortz> anyone using a promise SATA300 TX4 under gentoo ?
