<[R]> ZogG: and you should update it
<marienz> umdk1d3: (stuff in media-sound/ may depend on stuff in other dirs that's newer than your last sync)
<MeowCats> tdr, Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 5 40131 83 Linux /dev/sda2 6 68 506047+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda3 69 30401 243649822+ 83 Linux
<ZogG> [R] i'm installing from livecd 2006.0
<fizzle> hey i cant boot into gentoo. it keeps giving me File not found. but when i get my config and files it seems ok
<[R]> ZogG: what cd you use is irrelevent, but you should always use the latest handbook and the latest stage files
<MeowCats> [R], a lot, and this at the end SQUASHFS error: Can't find a SQUASHFS superblock on sda3 VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on dev sda3.
<[R]> MeowCats: then you didnt mkfs successfully
<ZogG> [R] i put them in the urls
<MeowCats> [R], ok, I'll try that step again
<[R]> ZogG: what?
<ZogG> [R] i use grafical install
<[R]> ZogG: yeah well... thats your problem
<bad_code> hah! that did it! thanks marienz. I had flac-1.1.3 installed in a subtree elsewhere for testing, but I must have just specified the binary prefixes instead of the full install prefixes.
<[R]> ZogG: try using the handbook as it doesnt suck so much
<marienz> heh.
<marienz> bad_code: glad you could find those headers yourself :)
<ZogG> i have no time now - but if the grafical will not work i'll try console
<[R]> ZogG: the *INSTALLER* in gneeral
<[R]> not just the graphical installer
<marienz> meh, I should faq this
<marienz> mzbot: faq installer-support
<mzbot> marienz: No such faq
<endra> hey sup
<endra> When checkng fdisk for devices, they always start with /dev/ right?
<[R]> i REALLY need to make a list
<[R]> of the most stupid thing i've ever heard in here
<ctp> hi folks. anyone here running ldap for authenticating users?
<[R]> and when i'm feeling down... i can read it and chuckle
<marienz> mzbot: learn installer-support if the automated installer gives you problems you'll usually need an installer dev to help you. The handbook-based "manual" install uses the same utilities used to manage the system after installation, so more people will be able to help.
<mzbot> marienz: stored.
<fizzle> does gentoo come with x and kde or do i need to emerge it?
<[R]> fizzle: you need to install everyhting
<[R]> fizzle: nothing but a BASE system is installed by default
<marienz> fizzle: I think I disagree with your definition of "gentoo comes with"
<pekster> [R]: "grep -i installer ~/R's-chat-log.log" ?
<marienz> fizzle: gentoo comes with x and kde, meaning they're available as stuff you can emerge :)
<dmb062082> arg alsaconfig at start up gives the error modinfo: could not find module snd
<marienz> fizzle: the base system you get after finishing the installation can't do much more than boot, rebuild itself, fetch and build more stuff.
<dmb062082> even though i can play test sounds
<ZogG> [R] havn't understand u
<ZogG> [R] havn't understood u
<pekster> mzbot: teach ZogG about handbook
<mzbot> ZogG: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
<[R]> ZogG: just read the hadnbook
<marienz> dmb062082: sounds like a typo or misconfiguration in /etc/modules.d/alsa
<meeseontheleese> hey guys, whats that command that allows private chat between two people on irc?
<reisio> meeseontheleese: /query name
<ZogG> [R] and what the point that it doesn't work?
<meeseontheleese> reisio, ah, ok
