#gentoo

<dmb062082> no luck with sound there
<markphipps> dmb062082: doesn't work for me neither.... hmm
<reisio> dmb062082: using Flash 9?
<reisio> markphipps: ^^
<marienz> bad_code: actually nvm
<dmb062082> its not just flash it is sound period....
<bad_code> eh?
<[R]> dmb062082: what happens when you cat a file to /dev/dsp
<bad_code> I'm also wondering why it was making stuff in the examples dir when it died
<[R]> bad_code: cuz it links example programs, and it failed linking against the library
<marienz> bad_code: version of flac installed?
<dmb062082> testing alsa which axs my soundblaster works fine under the sound control panel via gnome... and the sound properties even pick up my ca0106
<dmb062082> but nothing will play
<RtrentC> [R] by the way, the kernel recompile with the setting of 4gb instead of 1gb on himem fixed the problem of the system seeing all 1.5 gig of ram.
<[R]> RtrentC: of course it did
<umdk1d3> marienz, my /usr/portage/media-sound is empty
<bad_code> 1.1.2-r8 I believe marienz
<marienz> umdk1d3: that makes no sense.
<marienz> umdk1d3: pastebin /etc/make.conf
<bad_code> yep, 112r8
<marienz> bad_code: do you have any 1.1.3 flac headers around anywhere?
<dmb062082> [r] i am not sure what you mean
<bad_code> where could they be hiding?
<marienz> bad_code: I don't know! /usr/local/include possibly
<revdep-rebuild> As nobody seems to want to talk in #gentoo-apache, I'll ask in here. Why does <IfDefine DAV> evaluate to false when I have -D DAV in APACHE2_OPTS ??
<marienz> bad_code: the references to the symbols it is not finding are added by that patch you mentioned, but they're behind an ifdef and shouldn't be used unless it's picking up 1.1.3 flac headers.
<RtrentC> Well, have to go to work in the morning so i will pull out the old GCC tomorrow when I have more time and I am more awake if something goes awry.
<umdk1d3> marienz, http://rafb.net/p/6YVWuy33.html
<ZogG> how much time it takes 4 >>> Downloading http://gentoo.mirrored.ca/distfile ???????
<bad_code> blew away the FLAC header dirs I could find, am reinstalling flac
<marienz> umdk1d3: RSYNC_EXCLUDEFROM=/etc/portage/rsync_excludes
<marienz> umdk1d3: contents of that file? I bet media-sound is in it
<[R]> ZogG: it depends on what is being downloaded and how fast it is being downloaded
<MeowCats> when I try to mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo I get this: mount: you must specify the filesystem type, what should I do?
<marienz> umdk1d3: those LDFLAGS are kinda icky.
<[R]> MeowCats: sda3 doesnt have a filesystem on it
<MeowCats> [R] but I specified it to use ext3
<fizzle> bah i cant get into gentoo
<[R]> MeowCats: you did mkfs?
<MeowCats> [R] I used mke2fs -j -O dir_index /dev/sda3
<[R]> MeowCats: and what does mount -t ext3 /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo say
<ZogG> [R] it just is written this sentnce for a lot of time and that's all
<bad_code> re emerging libsndfile
<tdr> MeowCats check your partition type with fdisk -l
<[R]> ZogG: huh?
<umdk1d3> marienz, ahh thanks :) yep media-sound was -'ed in that file, and i just #'ed it out. is there a quick way to just rsync that dir instead of the whole tree?
<MeowCats> [R] mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda3, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
<[R]> MeowCats: and what does dmesg say
<marienz> umdk1d3: not that I know of, and if I did I still wouldn't recommend it unless your last sync is not older than hours.
<[R]> ZogG: your tree is EXTREMELY old
