<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, ls /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/ Find a place that is in the same time zone as you and cp it to /etc/locatime
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, ls /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/ Find a place that is in the same time zone as you and cp it to /etc/localtime
<dmb062082> but that is about it i can not get any other audio to play
<Boohbah> revdep-rebuild, fizzle: don't cp it, link it
<kojiro> fizzle: actually
<dmb062082> but my sound manager is detecting and using alsas soundblaster config
<kojiro> mzbot: teach fizzle about timezone
<mzbot> fizzle: set your timezone in /etc/conf.d/clock and the timezone-data ebuild will automatically update /etc/localtime with the correct value, as long as /etc/localtime is not a symlink.

<kojiro> this has only *just* changed
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, Or ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/EST /etc/localtime
<Boohbah> oh
<revdep-rebuild> kojiro, Alright. I hknow. that was a typo
<kojiro> just make sure it's not a symlink
<MeowCats> OK, well let's start with changing the root password, when I use passwd it asks me for the current password, which I don't know
<[R]> kojiro: that entry is wrong
<[R]> kojiro: it removes localtime if its a file or a symlink
<[R]> kojiro: and copies the corret thing
<revdep-rebuild> kojiro, He can't emerge anything until he fixes his clock
<kojiro> [R]: oh, that's different from what the -dev ml said last I checked
<kojiro> [R]: but I confess I haven't tested
<[R]> kojiro: they kmay have changed it
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild ight ty
<kojiro> [R]: regardless, as long as TIMEZONE is set correctly, the other problems will work themselves out, is that right?
<fizzle> taking me hours to install this thing ;/
<[R]> yeah
<[R]> as long as its valid it'll copy the file to localtiem
<bad_code> .... double you, tea, eff
<MeowCats> If I try to do passwd like the handbook says, it asks me for the current root password, which I don't know.. how can I set it?
<tdr> MeowCats, and you're already root when you type it?
<t35t0r> damn livecd
<t35t0r> sudo passwd root
<t35t0r> then change it
<MeowCats> tdr, I'm "gentoo" it seems
<t35t0r> sudo passwd root
<bad_code> so, libsndfile made a big ass jump from 1.0.11 to 1.0.17, none of the other versions are in portage
<MeowCats> t35t0r, thanks
<bad_code> and when building 1.0.17, I see a line about applying a flac-1.1.3 patch
<bad_code> and later in the build, it errors out on a libFLAC missing symbol thing
<triplah_w> i wonder what gossip will offer over gajim
<bad_code> same libflac error with vorbis-tools as well
<umdk1d3> im trying to install lame, but "emerge lame" doesnt find an ebuild, and there is nothing useful showing up in a --search :/ any thoughts?
<tdr> umdk1d3, media-sound/lame esists here
<marienz> umdk1d3: that's weird. What arch are you on? emerge --info?
<marienz> umdk1d3: it exists and is keyworded on 12 archs...
<markphipps> http://packages.gentoo.org/search/?sstring=lame
<umdk1d3> System uname: 2.6.15-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+
<ebfe> thats old
<marienz> umdk1d3: emerge --info?
