#gentoo
<[R]> MeowCats: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
<MeowCats> marienz, well theres no real choise here, I don't see amd64 or whatnot, just stage1, stage2, or stage3/grp
<DJGummikuh> reisio: however, subtitles are sometimes also realized over this system in germany
<marienz> MeowCats: then you're not looking in the right place.
<marienz> MeowCats: oh, gui installer?
<reisio> DJGummikuh: link?
<marienz> MeowCats: what [R] said.
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, emerge ntp && /etc/init.d/ntp-client start && rc-update add ntp-client default
<fizzle> ok im stuck
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild alright
<DJGummikuh> reisio: link to what?
<Logix101> marienz: it seems in the package.ketwords I dont lead the line with = correct?
<MeowCats> marienz, no, I'm using the command line installer
<marienz> MeowCats: also you need a matching livecd.
<marienz> Logix101: you do.
<reisio> DJGummikuh: some page on this
<digital0001> reisio, app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-medialibs, I am on amd64.
<DJGummikuh> reisio: hmm...
<[R]> MeowCats: you shdoulnt be using either installer
<Logix101> is that because I am naming an exact version?
<DJGummikuh> reisio: dunno.. never read anything about it on the net
<reisio> digital0001: and what sort of output does revdep-rebuild -p spit out?
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, That will sync you clock every boot. Otherwise just type 'man date'
<reisio> DJGummikuh: that makes it unlikely anyone knows about it :p
<marienz> Logix101: you either put in "media-libs/libexif ~x86" (which keeps you on the unstable version until you change it) or "=media-libs/libexif-0.6.13-r2 ~x86" (which gives you just this unstable version and puts you back on stable after that.
<digital0001> reisio, just a sec.
<marienz> Logix101: you need either no version number and no = or a version number as well as an =
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild right
<DJGummikuh> reisio: hmm it's quite common in germany though..
<Logix101> that is sweet..
<MeowCats> [R], ok if I'm asking these questions, do you really assume I can build my own... Linux or something? making up command line options or whatever?
<ewoud> Damn this is annoying. Can't reinstall now since the machine kinda is 200 km from here and I was almost finishe
<DJGummikuh> ok I googled for it and it always cames in conjunction with subtitles... and I now know that mythtv supports it
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild that didnt work. it wont even build that package
<[R]> MeowCats: just read the handbook... if you can't follow those simple directions, gentoo isn't for you
<[R]> MeowCats: THAT is how it is
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild i got the same error
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild configure: error: newly created file is older than distributed files! Check your system clock
<MeowCats> [R] or.... I Could simply use the terminal installer
<[R]> MeowCats: then you will have NO IDEA what you are doing once gentoo is installed
<marienz> MeowCats: I recommend you follow the handbook *especially* if you're new to gentoo.
<[R]> MeowCats: the installer isn't for people who have no clue what they are doing
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, Then use 'date' to set it roughly right now. You might also want to check the time set in your BIOS
<marienz> MeowCats: it will teach you about tools and concepts you need to maintain the system. You may be able to install the system using the gui installer without reading the handbook, but I doubt you will be able to maintain it.
<Logix101> marienz: ok last question :) is the package.unmask and package.keywords file the same concept then?
<digital0001> reisio, I guess this is what matters...: broken /usr/lib32/libsmbclient.so (requires liblber.so.2 libldap.so.2)
<fizzle> revdep-rebuild it says my date is Sun Feb 19 08:51:29 GMT 2006
<pekster> Am I the only one who thinks this point should be underscored quite a bit more in the automated install documentation?
<revdep-rebuild> fizzle, Where are you?
<marienz> Logix101: there is more than one kind of masking. You should normally not use package.unmask: it is used to unmask things that are very experimental or known to be broken. package.keywords gives you stuff that is unstable but supposed to be sane enough to go stable eventually.
