<ewoud> it's safe to download the x86 stage3 and then set the CHOST to whatever you have, right?
<marienz> tzaeru: you don't have a 32 bit libstdc++.so.5 (at least not on the library search path)
<t35t0r> ewoud, DO NOT TOUCH CHOST
<marienz> tzaeru: I don't know how to fix that though.
<astinus> ewoud: see /topic
<Logix101> marienz what happens when that file becomes out of date?
<zention> CoCo_kid594: well that is good, actually I think the kernel controls access
<marienz> Logix101: what file?
<ewoud> hmm ok
<Logix101> Does it automatically look for that version or > than
<tzaeru> marienz, ...thank you for giving me tiny ray of hope and then brutally stealing it
<Logix101> the libexif-0.6.13-r2
<CoCo_kid594> and it shows any resends or bad packet and shows your average output speed..
<marienz> Logix101: the line I gave you means "give me 0.6.13-r2 even though it's currently marked unstable". If a later version becomes stable you'll upgrade to that without any changes to the file.
<ewoud> any explanation where I can read more about why I can't change it?
<[R]> ewoud: because thats just the rule
<marienz> tzaeru: I don't have any amd64 hardware and am not very familiar with the crazyness that is multilib.
<[R]> ewoud: it BREAKS the system
<Logix101> great so i dont have to come back and remove lines form this file thanks
<EnterUsername> hmm
<ewoud> [R]: and if I rebuild it completly?
<astinus> ewoud: Why would you want to change it, precisely?
<marienz> tzaeru: something like installing a 3.3 gcc with multilib enabled will probably fix it, but there may be a better fix.
<[R]> ewoud: the correct way to "rebuild it all completely" is very compilcated... and it doesnt work all the time
<[R]> ewoud: you jsut DON'T do it
<ewoud> well, I'm not sure if I'm changing it tbh
<ewoud> what is the default?
<tzaeru> i'm not gona install gcc.. I bet I'd just break my system and would eventually, when trying to fix, break it even worse and end up reinstalling eeveeryyythiing
<astinus> depends on the stage..
<bad_code> ohhhhh wtf... why are we still using flac-1.1.2?
<[R]> ewoud: get the correct stage and you dont have to worry about it
<marienz> ahhh
<ewoud> stage 3 x86
<[R]> thats 386
<[R]> i.e. you dont want to use that one
<marienz> tzaeru: actually, check if you have libstdc++-v3 merged with USE=multilib, I think.
<ewoud> then I'm kinda changing it right now :S
<[R]> bad_code: 1.1.3 is hard masked
<marienz> tzaeru: I may be way off though, I don't have a system on which multilib makes any sense.
<[R]> ewoud: then your systme WILL be broken
<[R]> ewoud: you DO NOT change it
<ewoud> ah well, it's not in production yet so I got time to fix it
<Logix101> looking at http://gentoo-portage.com/media-libs/libexif it shows the r2 version... how is that not stable?
<[R]> if you chagned it
<[R]> and started buidling stuff
<[R]> stuff will be broken
<marienz> ewoud: if you just installed, then yes, remerge. It *is* possible to change CHOST but it's usually less work to reinstall.
<hydrogen> [R]: thats why we have the wondeful change chost guide
<[R]> i'd rather just say dont change it
<ewoud> hydrogen: exactly, already found it
