#gentoo

<bab__> [R]: okay, thanks
<tanq> kubuntu wasn't bad out of the box.
<digital0001> t35t0r, ok, thanks anyway.
<EnterUsername> [R]: your right about the documentation so i'll read up the latest now :)
<bab__> brb
<[R]> EnterUsername: of course i'm right
<CoCo_kid594> example.. i have a user when i add it shows up in the object list... but when i try and login with that user it wont login.. i can add anyother user just fine.. if i delete the bad user and readd.. does the same thing..anyway
<marienz> Logix101: /etc/portage/package.mask masks stuff. /etc/portage/package.unmask unmasks stuff masked by a package.mask in the /usr/portage/ tree. package.keywords is the one you're looking for here (for getting things from "unstable")
<tanq> hmm. the mouse seems a bit out of whack.. its like the x and y axis have different sensitivities
<tzaeru> whatever.. I dont need 3D anyway.. meeh.
<tdr> marienz if i p.mask and p.unmask the same package in /etc/portage, which file wins?
<tanq> s/its/it's/
<marienz> tdr: can't remember.
<[R]> tdr: unmask
<t35t0r> unmask
<marienz> tdr: I think it was unmask.
<[R]> that has bugged me for all time
<bab__> back
<[R]> so many times i thoguth there was a bug in portage cuz of it
<zention> CoCo_kid594: well from what I can make out something has to be running to keep the bind open - there is not central control
<tdr> [R], doesn't no mean NO then?
<CoCo_kid594> if you use your gentoo has alot of network traffic i found a nice monitor program called iptraf.. wished I new of one that would do graphs?
<[R]> tdr: huh?
<marienz> CoCo_kid594: mrtg does graphs.
<marienz> CoCo_kid594: may not be what you mean though, I don't know what iptraf does exactly.
<EnterUsername> where's there documenation on why to use profiles :S
<marienz> huh?
<[R]> EnterUsername: why? because tahts how portage works
<tzaeru> gods sake, what's wrong with these modern games.. <.< only error this stupid thing gives is "Names Differ: PLC_battleaxe_1 ABP_battleaxe_1"
<tzaeru> and I bet that has nothing to do with my 3D working or not
<CoCo_kid594> sention I found it! it was the hularules.. keeping it from booting.. i killed that and it rebooted okay.. kiling the hulamanger didn't get it all.. thanks.
<marienz> EnterUsername: assuming you mean the /usr/portage/profiles/ kind of profile: because you cannot use portage/emerge at all otherwise.
<EnterUsername> marienz: yes.
<EnterUsername> I usually just do global changes in the /etc/portage
<marienz> tzaeru: sooo do only 32 bit apps not work?
<marienz> EnterUsername: because a bunch of default settings are set by the profile.
<tzaeru> so it seems
<marienz> EnterUsername: ARCH being a pretty important one.
<marienz> tzaeru: ok. What version of ati-drivers?
<marienz> tzaeru: ati-drivers-8.33.6.ebuild has a bug causing it to not install the 32 bit dri libraries. 8.33.6-r1 has that fixed.
<tzaeru> marienz, 8.33.6-r1, which is supposed to be keyworded.
<marienz> nod.
<CoCo_kid594> sweet is that mrtg ready to rool after you emerge it?
<marienz> tzaeru: ok. Can you run a 32 bit app with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and pastebin the output?
<marienz> Logix101: please just hilight me here.
<marienz> Logix101: the line could look like what I mentioned a while ago: "=media-libs/libexif-0.6.13-r2 ~x86"
<tzaeru> marienz, http://pastebin.ca/362775 somehow I have feeling that that explains.
<tzaeru> at least something.
<CoCo_kid594> iptraf counts the packets sent and received also shows uhat ip's are connected to your server..
<marienz> tzaeru: yes, it does.
