#gentoo
<meeseontheleese> melodos, kqemu is a good free one
<t35t0r> digital0001, i don't know is gnome-screensaver a front-end for xscreensaver ?
<CoCo_kid594> does send mail have a web tool for configure?
<sykopomp> Logix101: support is not "tell me how to do everything"... it's "help me figure out what's wrong, because I don't know"
<marienz> tzaeru: cedega and nwn are both 32 bit apps, correct?
<t35t0r> CoCo_kid594, no
<sykopomp> correct way: "what do I search for? could I get a link?"
<digital0001> t35t0r, Don't know, but I don't think so.
<t35t0r> CoCo_kid594, there may be some guis available
<marienz> tzaeru: are you on ati-drivers-8.33.6 but not -r1? If yes, upgrade to -r1.
<sykopomp> incorrect way: "don't tell me to rtfm, I want you to tell me the answers"
<tanq> speaking of holding your head and patting your head.. I just picked up the February editions of Linux magazine.. i'm giving opensuse 10.2 a whirl.
<sykopomp> you'll actually get someone with choice A
<tanq> s/editions/edition/
<sykopomp> but I'm not gonna lecture you
<sykopomp> you're probably smart enough to figure it out from here on out
<sykopomp> have fun using Gentoo, I have a meeting to head to
<marienz> tzaeru: if no, try to get a 32 bit glxinfo somehow and check if that gets direct rendering.
<sykopomp> thanks again, guys, I'm out
<melodos> meeseontheleese, is it easy to set up?
<meeseontheleese> melodos, yeah I have a wiki around here somewhere just a bit, have to brb
<tzaeru> I think there're tons of people who have jumped from skicraper just because of gentoo.
<tzaeru> bless their souls. and so on
<digital0001> t35t0r, I have gnome-power-manager turning the monitor off.
<melodos> meeseontheleese, cool! i'll wait
<CoCo_kid594> Hula has a nice webtool the program is just buggy..Novell started the developement of hula and gave up because of no demand for it.. works good when it works.. but have foud alot of bugs.. it does strange things.. esp. when trying to add a user..
<t35t0r> digital0001, turn it off for now it's using xset dpms or something
<tdr> tanq i tried 10.2, wasn't happy
<t35t0r> digital0001, just set the gnome-screensaver to go blank if you want or just turn the monitor off
<EnterUsername> anyway you are right.
<bab__> anyone know how to find out which resolutions the radeon driver supports for a specific card?
<[R]> bab__: it should support whatever the monitor does
<[R]> bab__: unless the card is like 20 years old
<tzaeru> should this be like this: server glx vendor string: SGI
<tzaeru> or should there be ATI or something..
<tanq> tdr: i'm putting it on my laptop.. i'm on a search for the most dumbed down linux distro available. i'm trying to ween family and friends from windows.
<digital0001> t35t0r, ok thanks, one more thing. I had other situations when the system goes insane, and then it has been the hald-addon-stor process eating my cpu.
<tdr> tanq i had some probs with sound on a laptop, root had it, users didn't, etc
<bab__> [R]: i tried to get 1680x1050 on my radeon mobility 7500, and i kept getting "mode not supported" errors
<digital0001> t35t0r, and that only happens with beryl, and seems pretty random.
<tanq> tdr: that's an easy fix.
<math-gnurd> so here's the problem... i have a PPC G3 (mac mini) with an odd bios quirk -- the BIOS cannot boot from usb. i want to install gentoo on a usb stick. So I need a bootloader that will point to the kernel on the usb stick. if this were the old days with x86 boxen, i would use GRUB. but... a boot cd would work, right? i can boot off cd, so i can put the bootloader on there and it'll give me a menu with an option to load my usb bootroot disk?
<Solv> is there a gentoo howto for writing ones one init scripts? I want beagle daemon to begin at startup...tried a simple bash script and init was not happy at boot time...
<[R]> bab__: run X -logverbose 99 and read the x log as to why its not supported
<bab__> [R]: i could do 1600x1200, but not 1680x1050
<t35t0r> digital0001, you'll need to look in some bugzilla for that i've never used beryl and don't use gnome or hal/dbus blah blha
<tdr> tanq ya but someting that shouldnt happen outta the box
<Logix101> marienz so I add a line to /etc/portage/package.mask that unmasks 0.6.13-r2 stuff?
<tanq> tdr: i agree
<marienz> Logix101: no, /etc/portage/package.keywords
