#gentoo
<meeseontheleese> melodos, another good idea, get a basic gentoo system up, run qemu or say vmware, and create a secondary gentoo system as a vm, mess around with that, and when you think your testicles have dropped enough, do it to your main system, thats how i practiced on things to begin with
<sykopomp> it'll help you understand
<tanq> Logix101: wow.. i could have helped earlier but you waved me off.. and I obvioulsy know more about grub than you..
<Logix101> you cant expect people to just know ~arch and look for it right?
<tzaeru> if anyone has any good idea about why my 3D is not working, I'll be glad to handle him a COOKIE if we ever are to meet.. (Assembly '07 anyone?)
<testify> Logix101: that flag doesn't appear to do anything :-D
<digital0001> t35t0r, I had to set the rendering path to copy because of a bug in the nVidia-driver. It just makes it hard to use when it hangs badly.
<sykopomp> plus, Gentoo's one of the most amazingly well-documented distros, if not THE best one
<t35t0r> digital0001, turn off Option DPMS in the xorg.conf
<[R]> Logix101: if you read the handbook... it talks about it
<sykopomp> Logix101: look up "unmasking packages", it's in the manual
<sykopomp> or the wiki
<tanq> this guy bites the hand that feeds.
<sykopomp> whichever one you want to read
<Logix101> ahhh unmasking great
<sykopomp> but really, be respectful to people who are helping you
<sykopomp> ask questions, don't bit their freakin' heads off, please
<sykopomp> consider yourself lucky that #gentoo's a pretty helpful channel
<marienz> Logix101: I'd unmask *just* 0.6.13-r2 actually.
<tanq> no doubt...
<digital0001> t35t0r, what does that do?
<marienz> Logix101: =media-libs/libexif-0.6.13-r2 ~x86
<sykopomp> you'd be on the receiving end of the head-biting in any other pleace
<tzaeru> I'd bite even our cat if someone fixed my 3D.. :(
<melodos> meeseontheleese, u mean get an emulator on suse and get gentoo into it?
<marienz> Logix101: that'll give you just that version from testing and put you back on stable after that.
<t35t0r> digital0001, was it in xorg.conf already or not?
<sykopomp> marienz: nautilus is compiling, thanks a ton :D
<[R]> marienz: before making changes like that... shoudlht they make sure its not gonna break stable packages?
<digital0001> t35t0r, no it is not set.
<sykopomp> marienz: I guess I don't have to reinstall after all :D :D :D
<t35t0r> digital0001, do you have xscreensaver or something with power saving options enabled?
<meeseontheleese> melodos either way, up to you, the gentoo in a gentoo idea helps hurry the process up
<marienz> [R]: in theory, yes. In practice that is not really possible most of the time.
<sykopomp> it finished! woohoo
<CoCo_kid594> anyone else here use hula for email server? is there anything just as good? is it just me or does hula seem to be buggy...
<sykopomp> aaand it works
<t35t0r> heh use a real MTA like sendmail
<marienz> [R]: you can't realistically merge every ebuild in the tree, although I'm a bit disappointed nobody grepped the tree for preserve_old_lib in this case. I don't think the function is that widely used.
<Logix101> sykopomp: I do understand what your saying but you have to sometimes put yourself in the noobies shoes and realize how frustrating it is to hear its in the handbook dumb ass go read it... you know?
<sykopomp> sweet, everthing's in order. Now I can do an emerge world in peace
<[R]> marienz: i was just gonna say about grep
<digital0001> t35t0r, no I use gnome-screensaver, but no power saving there.
<melodos> meeseontheleese, can you tell me one easy emulator for suse or linux in general?
<sykopomp> Logix101: I've been in your shoes before. I went and read the wiki, and realized Gentoo is not the kind of distro that will hold your hand and pat your head
<Logix101> Especially since this channel is named Support
<marienz> [R]: it looks like just getting 0.6.13-r2 keyworded is the right thing to do here, I'm filing a bug on that.
<digital0001> t35t0r, but the screen does go blank after awhile.
<t35t0r> digital0001, so what do you mean when you say your monitor turns off
<tzaeru> marienz, meeh whatever, I'm confuuuuseeed now.. I made quickly small opengl app and it runs all smooth, sexy and nice etc etc etc, but still cedega and neverwinter nights fail to work.. and I'm 100% sure they USED to work before reinstallation <.<
