<streuner> pyrohotdog: ^^^^
<Delicates> I've seen a GUI app which displays a detailed RAM usage in pie charts... anyone knows what it's called?
<streuner> pihhan: sarge, etch or sid?
<pihhan> streuner, etch
<pihhan> after update to new 2.6.18 kernel, it does not pass populating /dev filesystem
<streuner> pihhan: what does 'cat /proc/version' say?
<pihhan> Linux version 2.6.15-27-k7 (buildd@terranova) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 16 02:35:20 UTC 2006
<streuner> pihhan: what does BTS say about?
<pihhan> as i cannot boot debian kernel
<pihhan> ?? BTS
<streuner> pihhan: and what does 'dpkg -l libc6 | tail -1' say?
<pihhan> ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries
<Thms> how can I give the privileges root to a user ?
<streuner> man sudo
<pihhan> might be problem i am using libpam-ldap to connect to ldap
<streuner> pihhan: wth are you using an ubuntu kernel in debian?
<Thms> streuner: without sudo
<streuner> That's a tric question, isn't it? :-)
<pihhan> streuner, because previous kernel from debian was 2.6.17 and i am using XFS as root fs
<benklop> do /dev/ nodes work as one might hope over NFS? eg can i access the sound card of another machine over nfs? this is a virtual machine running on a real machine with NFS between them so i'm not too worried about bandwidth
<streuner> XFS is well supported (official kernels) in debian since ages :-)
<pihhan> yeah
<pihhan> and 2.6.17 kernel had bug in XFS since its release
<pihhan> benklop, wouldnt ESD or such deamon be better way to do it?
<benklop> pihhan: for that scenario, yes... but i was actually thinking /dev/psaux or somesuch
<benklop> or a /dev/input/ device
<pihhan> i dont think nfs will support ioctls needed
<streuner> XFS is well tested in IRIX, but not in linux...
<pihhan> but i dont know
<pihhan> streuner, i am problem with udev freezing, XFS probem should be fixed in 2.6.18 but i cannot boot debian kernel 2.6.18-3-k7
<pyrohotdog> ...in English?
<streuner> well, that wouldn't fix your 'freezing' problem, but i dunno what else you have installed on your 'ubuntu' machine :-)
<pihhan> streuner, very funny
<amphi> pihhan: what xfs problems are you having?
<paranoos> arch rules
<pihhan> amphi, did i say i have problem with xfs?
<streuner> !bobbitt
<dpkg> Remember Lorena Bobbitt? Remember what she did to her husband's woody? Well, when you install binary packages from different branches onto your woody, you get the same result. Same goes for Sarge.
<benklop> pihhan: have you any suggestions on how i might go about doing that then?
<rpc> hark i'm sorry, was afk - thanks for this: rpc: ls *.ext |sed 's/\.[^.]*$//'
<streuner> ... the same goes with different kernels...
<streuner> (of debian based distros)
<pihhan> amphi, i cannot use 2.6.17 kernel, and because i had 2.6.16 from ubuntu, i used that because that did not damage my system
<streuner> hah
<amphi> pihhan: good idea
<pihhan> and i have one common /boot partition for debian etch and kubuntu, so i used what already was there :)
<pihhan> my question is
<pihhan> how can i fix or debug udev
<pihhan> when it is run 3rd on boot before i can run anything
<streuner> just re-install debian
