<Gnea> #20
<Gokee2> Gnea, I just followed the directions on the multimedia site (fixed a bunch of the error msg) and now I also folowed the direction that dpkg gave me
<Gokee2> Still has the same error :(
<undesktop> I'm looking for a good ICQ client which is != Gaim
<Gnea> Gokee2: works fine here... been awhile since i did the key addition tho
<Gnea> tell me you're female ;)
<Gokee2> Gnea, I have tried the key thingy a few times, it never works for me
<Gnea> !beer mackss
<jZe1> I've been using that page, thanks Gnea, I'll try it again
<Gnea> Gokee2: did you read and follow the FAQ on the site?
<Gokee2> Gnea, on debian-mutimedia? Yes and a another error msg that talked about debian-mutimedia went away
<Gnea> Gokee2: ok. any error messages around still?
<Gokee2> Gnea, Ya the one I said a few min ago (I did the debian-multi thing just before I asked about the other) the error is "W: There is no public key available for the following key IDs:B5D0C804ADB11277"
<Gnea> Gokee2: ok, which method from the FAQ are you using?
<Gokee2> And it says I should run apt-get update to correct it.... But that does not work
<jZe1> I got the .cab from the CD, used cabextract, got the net111v2.inf file, ran ndiswrapper on it, ndiswrapper -l shows it, the sourceforge list page tells me that should work, I still get wlan-ng Operation not supported
<Gokee2> Gnea, I used the apt-get with sudo "gpg --armor --export 1F41B907 | sudo apt-key add -"
<Gnea> jZe1: did you get the .sys file too?
<hark> obnauticus: that's not the dm key..
<jZe1> yes
<Gnea> Gokee2: try downloading the actual public key file and import it
<jZe1> do I include the .sys file in the ndiswrapper -i (or just do it in the same dir)?
<Gnea> the ndiswrapper howto should explain the entire process for that
<jZe1> well, then that's what I did :-)
<Gokee2> Gnea, I though the multimedia key worked and the one thats failing now it a diffrent one?
<jZe1> I followed everything I could read on the ndiswrapper pages
<Gnea> Gokee2: you need to make sure that you're using only *1* key for that site - so whichever is the last key that you imported will be the key that it's using
<Gnea> jZe1: ok, what method are you using for detection now? just popping the card out and plugging it back in?
<jZe1> not sure what you mean, I try lsusb, and iwconfig
<antum1> what are the advantages of buying an SSL certificate over generating one yourself? also can the same one be used for websites as for mail?
<hark> Gokee2: running etch?
<Gnea> antum1: purchased SSL certificates are required in a business environment where one is in an insured business environment
<tabris|away> antum1: generating one yourself requires that the people using your service must accept your cert. if you buy one, then [usually] they won't be asked.
<Gokee2> hark, testing... (I can never remember the other names :0
<tabris|away> antum1: thus if you do it for family only, or friends only, go cheap. if not... you'll have to pay the bastards
<antum1> ok, where do I buy one that should be accepted by most email clients and browsers?
<Gnea> antum1: basically if you setup a webpage as a store-front and if you have your tax id and all of that crap, you should purchase your own SSL certificate to make sure the site is setup accordingly with established business regulations
<dimir> Morning!
<hark> Gokee2: install debian-archive-keyring. That's all
<antum1> also are they harder to install than when it is generated by myself?
<Gnea> antum1: godaddy sells them
<Gokee2> hark, "debian-archive-keyring is already the newest version."
<jZe1> ndiswrapper -l shows "net111v2 driver installed, hardware(0846:6A00) present
<hark> Gokee2: then check your sources.list
<antum1> Gea, tabris|away thanks for your help, do you know if they can be used for both mail and web?
<Gnea> antum1: an ssl certificate is an ssl certificate - the only difference is that a purchased certificate is recognized globally and puts more responbility on you to ensure that the content of the site is safe
<Gokee2> Gnea, What about my sources list?
<Gnea> antum1: i'm not sure about that...
<antum1> Gnea sorry I spelt your name wrong. Thanks for your help! I'll go see if GoDaddy can help me
<Gokee2> hark*
