<Krazy-J> rsync -avP -e ssh /home/* /backups
<Krazy-J> is what I have at the moment
<Gnea> incremental?
<Gnea> could you elaborate?
<Krazy-J> it'll backup files that are different in size, date modified from the previous backup
<Gnea> right....
<Krazy-J> so if a.txt is 1kb at the first backup, but is now 1.5kb it'll back it up and replacei t from the /backup folder
<Krazy-J> but if they are the same size, it wont back it up
<Gnea> that's actually an option with rsnyc, so man rsync to find it
<Krazy-J> it'll skip the file
<Gnea> exactly. rsync supports that natively.
<Gnea> you just have to tell it to do it :)
<Krazy-J> would that be the -u paramter?
<Gnea> what does the manpage say?
<Gnea> Krazy-J: there's a few ways you can go about it actually - you can do it based off of timestamp and filesize or based off of md5sum
<Gnea> md5sum will probably be slower with larger files
<Krazy-J> just curious
<Krazy-J> see the following script on this page... http://rsync.samba.org/examples.html
<Krazy-J> the first exmaple
<Krazy-J> how would i implment that into a cronb?
<Krazy-J> cron?
<Krazy-J> like what format would that script be stored in
<Gnea> for a weekly? hrm
<Krazy-J> yeah
<Roey> anyone here use Gnuplot? I have a file with two columns which I would like to plot one against the other. What's the syntax for this?
<jZe1> ifup wlan0 gives wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported ... what should I try next? (netgear usb wifi, tried with acx and with ndiswrapper, lsusb shows it)
<Guerin> jZe1: go out and buy a decent wifi card
<jZe1> such as?
<Guerin> jZe1: do a quick cost-benefit analysis - if a rt2500 will cost you $40, and you pay yourself $10/hour, then you should be spending no more than 2 hours on this before going out to buy one
<Guerin> unless you realistically think you'll finish within another 2 hours
<Guerin> on the other hand, if time isn't money ...
<jelly-home> ... then you're being paid too low
<Guerin> yeh, well, picking a random number
<jZe1> I have a RTL8187L chipset, it's been reported to work
<Gnea> jZe1: what's the exact make/model of the card?
<jZe1> netgear wg111v2 usb dongle with (RTL8187L chipset, AFAIK)
<Gokee2> When I run apt-get update I get the msg "W: There is no public key available for the following key IDs:B5D0C804ADB11277" How do I fix this? I just did "gpg --keyserver hkp://wwwkeys.eu.pgp.net --recv-keys 1F41B907" "gpg --armor --export 1F41B907 | sudo apt-key add -" to debian-multimedia.org one
<Gnea> ok
<Gnea> !tell Gokee2 about 2006 key
<Gnea> Gokee2: i think the multimedia site has its own key - you'll need to download it from their site and add it to your keyring
<jZe1> from Realtek
<guru> what is the easiest way to split a large video file into smaller independant files?
<Gnea> jZe1: what's the usb id?
<mackss> can someone remind me how to sync my time again?
<jZe1> 0846:6a00
<Gnea> mackss: ntpdate
<mackss> Gnea, ntpdate: command not found
<Gnea> mackss: install it
<Gnea> jZe1: make sure you have the correct driver - have you checked out http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/List#N ?
<Gnea> jZe1: it's at the bottom of the list and it tells you the precise info that you'll need
