<chronographer> hi again, what is the command for the prog which makes it easy to change screen position in xorg.conf
<chronographer> nvm
<chronographer> xvidtune!
<scx> eitan_L to configure gdm: apt-get remove gdm && apt-get install kdm
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: http://www.ellak.gr/pub/OpenGuides/Debian/pics/chap07/xdm.png <--- this is xdm.
<LeFallen> eitan_: There's always slim too - that's cool ;)
<scx> apt-get remove gnome may help too
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: Ok... I don't have xdm. I guess gdm. But gdm has been crashing... after crashing many times I get this message:
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: Display Server has been shutdown 6 times in 90 seconds...
<LeFallen> Don't you love it how when you ask for help with package A, people respond with install package B.
<jZe1> when I try to ifup wlan0 on my etch netgear usb wifi, I get "wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported" ... how should I troubleshoot?
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: Then it goes to the console.
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: that means that your X configuration is incorrect; doesn't really have anything to do with gdm.
<dondelelcaro> scx: stop being useless, pleasse.
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: ok... so how do I fix that? I figured out that it's been gdmlogin that's been crashing, where gdmgreeter works properly. How do I fix gdmlogin so that it doesn't crash gdm?
<scx> srry, it's the flammer I have within
hi people :)
<predder> !beer sec
somebody knows how to do that my sendmail server listen out of my localhost? I need to connect from internet to my computer server with sendmail
but if I type "netstat -an | grep 25" ...
<croddy> i'm having some odd font rendering problems in iceweasel on my new etch install. a letter following the letter combinations "ff", "fi", or "fl" overlaps the preceding letter. i am pretty sure this has do do with automated rendering of ff, fi, and fl ligatures, but i'm not sure where to look in the BTS to see if this has been reported (or if it is because i brought over my old iceweasel profile from the old install). any ideas?
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
localhost :(
I need with my public ip
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: the message that it's giving you is that the X server crashed, not that gdmlogin is crashing; does the greeter display at all?
<dondelelcaro> sec: which mailserver?
why don't works fine?
<tydelCA> sec: configure it to do so
dondelelcaro, I use sendmail
tydelCA, where?
<tydelCA> locate sendmail.cf
ok
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: After installing available backports the problem started. I think it's because I had mistakenly chosen using xorg during one of the configuration questions.
tydelCA, what I should to search in my sendmail.cf?
<tydelCA> I haven't touched sendmail in years
<dondelelcaro> sec: it's /etc/mail/sendmail.mc; and you need to configure it to bind 0.0.0.0 with something like DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet, Name=MTA-v4, Port=smtp')
<tydelCA> because I'm allergic to it
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: The crosshatch screen comes up with the spinning "loading" pointer... and before it normally goes to the screen where you can login, it crashes... the screen flickers and it tries again.
ok dondelelcaro :)
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: do you see the greeter part where it asks you to start logging in?
<scx> anyone knows how to make emacs to open in console by default instead of X ? I tried an alias to -nw but I wander if there's an 'emacs' way
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: it does this 6 times before it gives up and goes to the console. One of these times, though it let me switch to the gdmgreeter which is more "graphical." That worked perfectly. I don't know why my old gdmlogin program doesn't work anymore.
<dondelelcaro> sec: alternatively, dpkg-reconfigure sendmail; and change the options so that it listends on all interfaces.
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: No... it's about to display the login window, but then it crashes.... it only goes to the X looking screen and shows the spinning "loading" logo.
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: ah, ok. then it's not X at all, but gdmlogin itself.
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: as far as why it's crashing, you'll have to look at /var/log/gdm.log or wherever it's logging information to.
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: ok... let me check that...
dondelelcaro, dpkg-reconfigure sendmail don't work
don't show me any message
<dondelelcaro> sec: ah, ok... well, then just edit /etc/mail/sendmail.conf and follow the directions therein
