<DrDetroit> hey all debian debbies
<eitan_> sur3857: During the configuration after installing the backports, one question I was asked was wheter I was using xfree86 or xorg. I said xorg, and I was mistaken. Now the greeter doesn't seem to work. I feel like a fool.
<ifup> dondelelcaro, I tried that also and get prompted in the browser to open them
<dondelelcaro> ifup: and restarted? and they're executable?
<DrDetroit> eitan - do it up in a music video
<DrDetroit> have some backup chorus 'I feel like a fool' and show the footage of the boot screens etc
<ifup> I run /etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload and chmod and chown also to www-data
<DrDetroit> chorus bridge could be 3 gals 'shouldnt'a shouldn'ta shouldn'ta installed today... today...'
<AussieHatter> then send it to weird al and see if he wants to do a rendition
<ifup> I will as over at apache and see what they say Thanks
<DrDetroit> same line there aussiehatter
<dondelelcaro> they don't need to be owned by www-data, they just need to be executable, and cgi-script needs to be the handler.
<eitan_> DrDetroit: It's only to make fun of me if you are willing to help out afterward.
<DrDetroit> also known tunes "I'm gonna tripwire ya tonight baby"
<DrDetroit> and favorites such as. heh jk
<ifup> on my handler I added AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl
<dondelelcaro> ifup: for which directory?
<DrDetroit> it is peculiar that you actually utilize acid after utlizing snort
<eitan_> My greeter in x is crashing. I cannot login with the standard greeter in x. Only the gnome greeter works. Does anyone know how to fix this?
<DrDetroit> get some 3-d cube flyin' atcha for your login
<DrDetroit> I bet that's possible with that beryl
<ifup> acutally I put it in apache2.conf
<DrDetroit> cough- glass like -
<DrDetroit> without that dev price tag of cough aero
<dondelelcaro> just randomly putting it in apache2.conf won't do anything
<dondelelcaro> since stanzas only affect particular directories
<ifup> dondelelcaro, well I took it out and put it in the conf file in the virtual site also. still same
<eitan_> What is the name of the standard X greeter program in debian?
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: there really isn't a standard; xdm, gdm, and kdm are common ones.
<dondelelcaro> ifup: and you've restarted your browser?
<ifup> dondelelcaro, not the browser
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: I'm talking about the x-windows looking interface that asks you for your username and password. (Not the gnome greeter... the x-windows looking greeter.)
<dondelelcaro> ifup: well, try that next; alternatively, use GET foourl; or wget -O - foourl;
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: heh. There's no such thing as an "x-windows looking" interface, but you probably mean xdm.
<dondelelcaro> http://www.ellak.gr/pub/OpenGuides/Debian/pics/chap07/xdm.png FE
<sur3857> eitan_: the "standard greeter" is gdm greeter without themes, maybe your gdm.conf is wrong, check if you hava a backup.
<chronographer> hi all, im doing a dpkg reconfigure xserver-xorg and want to know which video driver to use with my geforce
<Gnea> chronographer: just a basic driver? nv
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: If what you're saying is true, then I've been using the xdm greeter, but xdm was never installed.
<chronographer> yep cover all bases, nv is the one?
<chronographer> i will install gl support later
<Gnea> yeah, nv
<chronographer> 'thx a bunch =)
<dondelelcaro> eitan_: I've no idea what you've been using; the picture I gave you above is a screenshot of xdm.
<Gnea> :)
<Gnea> !beer dondelelcaro
<dondelelcaro> mm. piraat.
<Gnea> da!
<eitan_> sur3857: ok... thanks... I'll check on that.
<eitan_> dondelelcaro: I don't know what you mean when you say you gave me a screenshot. Anyway, how do I configure gdm?
