<orc_orc> mjh001: tab completion caused me to address jmeven, who I asked to nm the ping
<hal23456> hello again everyone! Could someone tell me where I can get a previous update of samba rather than version 3.0.10-1.4E.11 that I can see at http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.4/updates/i386/RPMS/ ?
<orc_orc> hal23456: vault.centos.org
<range> hal23456: Probably in the os/ directory if there haven't been any updates since 4.4 came out. If not, it should be in updates also.
<range> If there were some, they should be in updates also, that is.
<neteng> how about where I can find: kernel-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL
<hal23456> orc - sorry, I don't mean a previous version of centos, I mean a previous version of samba
<hal23456> for version 4.4
<hal23456> range - they don't seem to be in updates - this is where I initially looked
<Zathrus-2> neteng: same answer as for hal
<neteng> thats what I thought.... there was no 4.4 dir though
<orc_orc> hal23456: we ship what we shipped -- the vault holds back issues
<hal23456> yes, but in the vault I don't see any 4.4 directory
<mjh001> I am guessing at this point, no one know how to get around this problem at all... cant use any of the solutions I've found so far cause they simply dont work...
<hal23456> and in http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.4/updates/i386/RPMS/ there is no previous version
<orc_orc> and therefore no retuired versions not in updates or base exist
<neteng> and hal23456 there it is in the mirror...
<neteng> thanks!
<mjh001> thanks anyway orc for pointing me in the wrong direction and to places I have already been to no help at all
<orc_orc> you are most welcome
<mjh001> :)
<neteng> haha
<hal23456> sorry, I don't follow. Version 3.0.10-1.4E.11 is in the updates directory but version "Jan 10 13:03:37 Installed: samba.i386 3.0.10-1.4E.9" is missing
<hal23456> I am very sorry if I am not understanding something that is fundamental
<Sakuya> well, I kinda need help again
<mjh001> sorry about the attitude but it has been a long 3 days for somthing that should have been done in about 2 hours and I am going go and get some sleep and revisit it another time and this customer can be anyones whom wants it! C'YaL8r..
<hal23456> is anyone able to explain this to me? I would be very grateful
<orc_orc> Evolution: I don't install nor follow samba -- have we been pushing serial updates recently?
<ping2921> does upgrading a celeron d 336 to a core2duo processor require a os reinstall?
<hal23456> [thank you for helping, orc] :-)
<Zathrus-2> orc_orc: there have been numerous recent samba updates; I don't know that they've been serial though.
<hal23456> zathrus - do you know why previous rpm updates are missing from the repository? Have the new versions replaced the old ones?
<Arrfab> hal23456 : i see plenty of samba rpms on http://vault.centos.org ...
<hal23456> ok, I think I understand - the version of samba released with 4.4 was 3.0.10-1.4E.9. and the most recent version updated on 17 Feb was 3.0.10-1.4E.11.
<hal23456> Something weird happened on Jan 10 in that 3.0.10-1.4E.9 was erased and installed again (on my system anyway)
<hal23456> I was looking for 3.0.10-1.4E.10, but maybe it doesnt exist
<neteng> I found the kernels I was looking for but now I can't find the dbus and dbus-glib
<Arrfab> hal23456 : if you want to see the changelog of a package : rpm -qi --changelog nameofpackage
<Arrfab> hal23456 : then you'll see that it confirms what you think : no 3.0.10-1.4E.10 existed ...
<hal23456> arrfab - actually, it states taht 3.0.10-1.4E.10 DID exist! This throws a bit of a spanner in the works! So where is the rpm for 3.0.10-1.4E.10?
<hal23456> ok, I understand - version 3.0.10-1.4E.10 was superseeded in a day, so probably centos didn't have time to compile it and add it to the repos
<Arrfab> hal23456 : you're right , .10 existed but it seems that it has been replaced in the updates directory by a newer one ...
<hal23456> thank you arrfab - thatis very useful info to me. I will remember to use the changelog in future
<Arrfab> hal23456 : you're welcome ... :)
<hal23456> :-)
<petterah> i guess you ppl get this question alot, but im going to try, and hope you don't kick me hehe... how is the work on centos 5 going? :)
<z00dax> petterah: going well i presume
<petterah> hehe ok
<petterah> great
<Arrfab> z00dax : don't you want to say pony to change his answer ... ?
