<alleycat> and well... stuff is not always stable
<breakdisk> so u mean you will be needing it upgrade in the future.
<alleycat> for a production machine, I strongly recommend the distro kernel, if it is OK
<alleycat> OK == provides whatever you need
<alleycat> removing a couple of modules "just to make the kernel smaller" is definitely not worth the effort any more
<alleycat> but of course, YMMV
<breakdisk> hmm,really thats what i im thinking.
<alleycat> Size : 28584999
<alleycat> i do not thibk that 28M is a problem today
<alleycat> but it depends on your needs
<alleycat> I prefer to go chasing girls rather then compiling kernels just for the sake of size
<breakdisk> hahaha.....so like girls too...
<breakdisk> +u
<sommere> has centos released a beta based on rhel5?
<Zathrus> pony: centos5
<Evolution> sommere: not yet. not all the rhel5 bits build properly on themselves.
<longword> pony, can I have centos 5 now?
<sommere> that's too bad.
<Arrfab> sommere : if you want to test it, just download the upstream one ... it's available ...
<sommere> I have
<sommere> I was hoping to help find problems in the centos version before it was released
<sommere> (there were some problems with the installer in beta2 which made it kernel panic)
<Arrfab> sommere : test the upstream one , and if you find bugs, fill it in upstream ...
<sommere> done and done
<sommere> so I guess I'll just wait
<orc_orc> sommere: the best wy to ensure what we build is fixed is to get it fixed in the upstream
<h3sp4wn> Is there a centos provided kernel that can run under xen 3.0.3 ? (or failing that somewhere I can obtain a newer udev so the I can use the xen source one)
<sommere> I can't get rcs anymore (I used to work for IBM, where I had access)
<sommere> ok
<orc_orc> sommere: centos ships rcs -- I use it daily
<Zathrus> h3sp4wn: not at this time
<archangle25> im getting an aauthentication error while trying to loggin to a cyrus imap server ive run passwd on the user and still no joy
<alleycat> h3sp4wn: i am using the kernel downloaded from xen
<h3sp4wn> alleycat: How did you deal with udev not starting ?
<h3sp4wn> or did you not have that issue ?
<alleycat> just use MAKEDEV to create /dev/{null,zero,random,console}
<wyleyrabbit> Hi people!
<wyleyrabbit> I am having a problem with getting saslauthd to work with /etc/shadow. I have sendmail set to authenticate users for outgoing email with "pwcheck_method:saslauthd", but unless I add the user to /etc/sasldb2, the user cannot send email.
<h3sp4wn> alleycat: I have already done that - is there a proper way to stop udev running on startup (every other machine I use is debian)
<alleycat> h3sp4wn: on centos 4 it is started automatically from rc.sysinit, AFAIR
<Mikaku> wyleyrabbit: have you tested your email accounts with "testsaslauthd" command?
<wyleyrabbit> Mikaku, yes. Entering the credentials results in "ok. success." from the shell. But via SMTP, the same user/password don't work unless I have that user in sasldb2.
<h3sp4wn> alleycat: I just removed it from there should be ok thanks
<alleycat> but make sure you do not actually need it
<DuCkNeT> have a problem with centos server
<alleycat> it handles everything under /dev ...
<DuCkNeT> x server crash when i start it
<alleycat> DuCkNeT: logs, error report
<DuCkNeT> no errors
<alleycat> var/log/X*
