litheumStuBo: well, it depends on the size of the indexes, not the size of your table
StuBo: how much free space do you have on your disk?
StuBoah gotcha
80GB
litheumtoanducit: if you are using mysql 5.0, you could build a list of tables from information_schema.tables and then use that to build a DROP TABLE statement
toanducitok
litheumStuBo: so set it to like 10G or something, should be fine. also set myisam_max_extra_sort_file_size if you are using 4.0 or 4.1, read about it at that link i pasted
StuBook cheers
should I always leave them set at that...or change them after my alter tables
litheumtoanducit: select ifnull(group_concat(table_name),'') as tables from information_schema.tables where table_name like '%test1%' and table_schema=database();
toanducit: that will work in MySQL 5.0+
toanducit: and then you would use the list you get back from that and create a DROP TABLE statement from it, for example
toanducitok. I'll try
litheumStuBo: doesn't really matter, as long as you have that much disk space around or aren't rebuilding any MyISAM tables
StuBoyeah, but would it be freed up after doing alter table commands
litheumyep
StuBocool
what about a size for that other myisam_max_extra_sort_file_size
litheumjust set it the same...
i think it might already be set to some enormously high value, not sure what the default is
StuBoyeah
I dont have a myisam_max_extra_sort_file_size
I think mysql 5 doesnt use it anymore litheum
litheumi already said that :)
StuBoso you did
my largest index file is 8Gb
litheumset it to 10+ GB then
just in case you have added some index that is very large or something..
StuBoyeah
just killed the process and changed it to 10gb as you said
restarted mysql
litheumwell you could've changed it without restarting, but that's cool ;)
StuBohow must slower is the key cache
litheumdramatically slower
10x slower sometimes, maybe
StuBosheez really!
litheumdepends on various factors... cpu speed maybe, disk speed, *shrug*
vice-versacan be a much as 20 times slower from what I've read on the subject
litheumprobably
Byanhey, I make a new row in a table and it has an auto incrementing integer.. how do I figure out what the value of that is?
