whaleofconfusionbesides the special forms and macros, the only thing that can introduce new lexical bindings is a lambda form (which introduces argument bindings for its body) right? is there an exception?
oudeiswhaleofconfusion, let, let* ...
rudithese are special forms
oudeisok
rr--cmucl/sbcl can load fasl (.x86f) files produced by earlier versions of cmucl/sbcl, right
rudinot in general, no
whaleofconfusion"case" is fantastically obtuse whenever you are testing for equality to symbols that also happen to be common functions or special forms
faxwhaleofconfusion: do you have an example
whaleofconfusionsure, I posted one a bit earlier that had code like that, you want me to show the current example
(it's not done)
tritchey_Xach: around?
froydnjblech, bug in sb-sprof
tritchey_froydnj: any idea why Xach would have used sb-posix:close instead of just a normal close in his epoll code?
I'm assuming I won't have contribs available at the point I need serve-event :-P
froydnjtritchey_: dealing with OS fds instead of lisp streams?
tritchey_it will be an fd returned from epoll_create
froydnjthat's my guess as to why he did it, anyway
tritchey_ahh, looks like serve-event doesn't worry about actually closing any of the FDs anyway
froydnjyeah, it's probably expected that the user will disconnect handlers and close the stream themselves
tritchey_when serve-event starts up, I am going to need to call epoll_create, which will give me an FD. should I even care about closing it?
froydnj70% of the time and I can't make it go any faster
tritchey_as all of sbcl will be coming down at that point anyway.
pkhuongtritchey: is epoll better than doing the select dance by myself in CL?
froydnjtritchey_: I wouldn't worry about it for now; we can handle it later if it becomes a problem
tritchey_okay - thanks
pkhuong: if you want to handle more than 1024 file-descriptors, yes.
ruditritchey_: if you need something like sb-posix:close in core sbcl code, put it in the sb-unix package
pkhuongtritchey: right :)
froydnjI would guess that sb-unix:close is already there
tritchey_rudi: thanks. any thoughts on where I should stick the epoll alien defs?
rudiI think sb-unix is ok, otherwise the style police will point out better alternatives
tritchey_(seeing as they will be linux-specific)
okay - thanks

chandler: around?
hooyawith cl-sql-postgresql, two consequitive (connect ... :pool t) to the same conn spec seems like it should only result in one connection. am i missing something?
s/to the same/with the same/
or better yet, (with-database (... :pool t) ...)(connected-databases) => NIL. what am i missing?
