epimethdogatemycomputer: nah, chinese don't write rtl... it was probably an israeli
dogatemycomputerlol
epimethdogatemycomputer: no, he's trying to open an xls file from a samba share from within openoffice
s1icknickepimeth: thanks brotha!
appreciuate the ideas and suggestions
just looking for some direction
epimethdogatemycomputer: its telling him to create a local copy first....
s1icknick: no worries, mate... good luck :-)
dogatemycomputerepimeth: that is correct
navetsok i think i figured out how to create a symlink but now i just need to know how to get to the folder ~/.kde/Autostart/
dogatemycomputerepimeth: you have to save the document then use KDE's file manager to copy it back to the samba share unless you mount the samba share first.
navetslol i kinda feel really noobish
epimethnavets: I told you already! :-)
dogatemycomputernavets: cd /home/<yourusername>/.kde/Autostart
navets: that should work..
epimethnavets: $ln -s /usr/bin/katapult ~/.kde/Autostart/katapult
navetsk thanks guys
epimethnavets: ~ is /home/<you>
dogatemycomputerepimeth: that doesn't tell him how to chnage to the directory.. which i think is a great learning experience..
navetsahh i see
epimethnavets: so... $cd ~ is the same as $cd /home/<you>
and .kde is a hidden folder... any file/folder begining with . is hidden
dogatemycomputernavets: how I learned is to go "cd /home/myusername" .. then type "cd .k" then press tab twice.. it'll show you a list of all the hidden files that start with ".k" .. then type enough to finish the statement..
epimethnavets: I love tab autocompletion :-)
navetsha i see i got there
i have nothin in my autostart folder lol
epimethnavets: ya... the only thing in mine is katapult
dogatemycomputernavets: most of us don't keep anything in that folder. Most apps just get reloaded along with our profile.
epimethwow.... .directory is a cool little file
dogatemycomputerepimeth: are you being funny? :)
epimethyou know... I absolutely love that linux has everything UTF-8... windows is such a bitch when it comes to encoding
dogatemycomputer: nope... I just never noticed it before
dogatemycomputerepimeth: yeah.. its one of the first things I noticed..which is interesting becacuse, i believe, it is what tells the O/S that its a directory with a link to the physical location on the drive..
epimeth: its pretty engenius..
hey.. does anyone know how to start a torrent download from the command prompt?
(over ssh)
epimethdogatemycomputer: yea... check out rtorrent
I don't think ktorrent has a command line interface
dogatemycomputeri wonder if I have to kill ktorrent first?
next question I have is.. is there a text based web browser I can download?
