Dr_willisbut for my testing of live cd's they both work decently well
smaxi would like to have $home mount from my slave drive, but how am i supposed to get the device name if i get a grub prompt rather than just linux booting.
Master_Kalewhen I try 'sudo apt-get install qemu' I get back 'E: Couldn't find package qemu"
smaxif i have linux on a master device, shouldnt the default thing to do is just boot of the master device regardless of what is on the slave?
Dr_willisthat tells me you dont have all the repositories set up
smax, to get home somewhere else.. you just edit the fstab and moun tit whever you want
Lijohsomeone help me
Dr_willisyou could even do this after an install - easy to move /home to some where else
Lijohi cant open rar file
Dr_willis!rar
uboturar is a non-free archive format created by Rarsoft. For instructions on accessing .rar files through the Archive Manager view https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FileCompression. There is a free (as in speech) unrar utility as well, see !info unrar-free
Dr_willis!unrar
smaxDr_willis: how am i going to mount in the first place if i dont know the name of the device in /dev?
Lijohyes
smaxhence grub interferees
Lijohyes unrar
Dr_willissmax, fdisk -l
smaxand NOT boots
i cant get past grub
Lijohim newbie
Dr_willissmax, now you are getting to the real problem then it seems.
smaxgrub is soo stuipid. i have linux on my slave too. OOOO WOW so why can grub just boot from the master anyway.
Dr_willisLijoh, install the unrar-free package or the nonfree rar program from the repositories..
smaxas of now. the slave is unplugged
Dr_willissmax, ive never had grub be at issue with my 7 hard drives.. :)
Lijohwhere can i download it?
Dr_willisLijoh, use the package manager, to install them. You may need to add the extra repositories
smaxwould i need to erase grub from my slave drive too ?
Master_KaleDr_willis: yeah, I'm not even able to install VMWare; if you can point me to the repositorie I need to install, I can take care of that
Dr_willisor 'check' on the extra repositories
Admiral_Chicagosmax: no
Dr_willis!vmware
ubotuVMWare Player is in Ubuntu's !Multiverse repository (package "vmware-player"), and http://www.easyvmx.com/easyvmx.shtml can create VMs for it. For VMWare Server, instructions can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VMware
smaxAdmiral_Chicago: well what do you suggest?
Dr_willisMaster_Kale, vmware server is not in the repos.
smaxim am NOT going to configure grub.conf. too much shit to fiddle with. if i want to fiddle with shit i'll install gentoo
fyrmedicF1re-hose
Master_KaleDr_willis: hmm
Admiral_Chicagosmax: well, GRUB will overwrite it but it will still be on the slave. I recommend leaving but realize it may need fiddling if you wove your slave around
Dr_willisgrub loads and reads its config files from where its set up to do so.. then that shows the grub menus.. What is grub doing exactly?
