grepperits unclear what you want to do
almost seems you want to have the note appear on his computer
Josh_correct.. sorry.. I use knotes.. (send notes) back and forth between users... we send post-it notes between each other but we use IP addrresses to send them to each other, rather than specifying just the persons name
Renzehow about adding the IP address/name to /etc/hosts ?
Josh_hmmm... I dont know?
tstaerkjosh_: I did not quite understand the problem.
Josh_tstaerk: the application knotes, that comes with kde (kubuntu) we LOVE Knotes.. when I send a note to my buddy, I right click on the note, click send, then i type in my local network IP (for that machine) versus just typinig in BOB
Renze: im gonna check it out
does that make sense?
tstaerkno, that is a description what you do.
Josh_percicely.. :) im trying to understand, IF it is possible, to, send that note to the system name 'bob' versus '192.168.1.123'
in knotes
tstaerkjosh_: thanks, and sorry for being so nitpicky.
josh_: /etc/hosts is the right place
Josh_no no no its quite alright...
tstaerkkolossus:~ # cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 kolossus.site kolossus
192.168.0.5 bob
kolossus:~ #
josh_: ^^^ that is what you need
Josh_does the name have to match the machine, or can I give it a different name? so lets say Bobs machine is called 'bobs system' do I have to put in the hosts file 192.168.1.123 Bobs system or can I change it and say BOB
tstaerkyou can give your own name
Renzejosh_: the name is only relevant on the machine the /etc/hosts file exists on
tstaerkkolossus:~ # ping bob
PING bob (192.168.0.5) 56(84) bytes of data.
Josh_sweetness... this is just purely awesome
tstaerkI cannot reach bob ;)
Renzetstaerk: try fingering bob :D

tstaerkjosh_: when you have this, we tell you how to setup your own name server, all using kwrite so we can stay in this channel
Josh_thank you gentlemen.
tstaerkjosh_: and do not forget to exchange 192.168.0.5 with bob's real IP
actionRenze ponders food
Renzeponders food
Josh_i guess i have 2 restart in order for this 2 take effect?
