styx_i did google, but no luck
Linux_Galore_styx_: I just send the stuff direct to the IP on the machine cups is running on
styx_: play with kprinter
styx_i do, too..
kprinter.. sex
sec
Linux_Galore_styx_: could also be a firewall issue on the cups server
styx_Linux_Galore_: i am on the cups machine
Linux_Galore_I had that problem, send jobs to the machine and nothing, edited the firewall and it worked
styx_the printer is a HP LJ 4050 TN with IPP or LPD
there are no iptables rules :&
Linux_Galore_styx_: if its on the same machine then just send it to cups
styx_: print the file to pdf, see if there isnt a ghostscript problem
styx_i do, from what i can tell.. test pages work and do convert to PS..
the problem is, the job apparently never reaches the local CUPS
in control center, CUPS is selected, though
Linux_Galore_styx_: so the cups log shows nothing ?
styx_Linux_Galore_: if i open the kjobviewer, i see it accessing CUPS. but when printing, nothing appars in the cups log (log level debug)
Linux_Galore_styx_: often you can print the test doc but you cant print a set document because the font it contains stuffs up ghostscipt or the document isnt a4 etc so has margin problems
cant*
lol, I was right the first time
styx_hmmm.. but.. shouldn't that show up in the cups log?
Linux_Galore_styx_: no because cups doesnt come into the loop until it gets a ps from ghostscript
styx_ok. any logfile i should look at?
i'll try printin to GS directly
Linux_Galore_styx_: yeah convert the file to a ps file then sent it to ghostscript, see if it spits out an error
styx_amm. can you go in more depth about the "send to GhostScript" part, please?
hm... maybe.. there should be a gs executable?
lin_trying to change the background image for the KDE login, unfortunately the behaviour i'm getting is the normal themed login and my choice of the background image is shown for 1 second before the login screen is shown. (i am not refering to boot splash, nor kde bootsplash), any suggestions?
styx_Linux_Galore_: ok. i feel silly. will re-emerge ghostscript.
*sigh* off for an hour or so. gentoo may be nice, but it sure is time-consuming
Linux_Galore_styx_: lol, no gs sort of answers your question
styx_... gentoo. if it wasn't for beryl, i'd go back to my nice little debian box
Linux_Galore_styx_: if you look in kprinter it usually shows how it filters everything to get it working on cups, it usually has a gs thing there
styx_actually, there are _no_ filters activated
Linux_Galore_styx_: Ive been using Ubuntu for a while now and my hackishness knowledge is dwindling
everything bloody works
styx_Linux_Galore_: yes.. but gentoo is so cool! it makes your machine speed up to up to... don't know? 2%? *sigh*
is there Beryl in ubuntu?
Linux_Galore_styx_: its will be in Feisty, but optional still but easy to install
