LoganCapaldoAll the things I like about editors are mostly useless with haskell
yipbest is to try to keep all lines in your code less then 80 chars, then you don't need word wrap
LoganCapaldoIts not like you can auto indent haskell code :)
vim_for_lifeyip: what if you're writing paragraphs?
glguyLoganCapaldo: except that you can
LoganCapaldo: but other than that ;)
yipvim_for_life: then use a word processor :)
Eelisyip: why compromise if simple technology can solve the problem entirely?
LoganCapaldoglguy: How? Where is this psychic editor you are using, and how come I don't have a copy? :)
vim_for_lifeyip: but I want to write latex and I want version control.
yipEelis: long code lines are bad style. they are very hard to read and digest
glguyLoganCapaldo: you haven't installed emacs yet?
Eelisyip: there's more than just code in source files :) (think comments)
yipEelis: this is why i don't write a lot of comments :P
vim_for_life: i imagine that vim works pretty well for that
LoganCapaldoglguy: Lemem rephrase. How does it know when to stop indenting? :)
Eelisyip: i'd rather not use an editor that discourages me from writing comments ;)
quicksilveryip: actually, to be fair, long code lines would not be hard to read at all if editors could wrap sensibly :)
vim_for_life@tell humasect hey, did you write the Haskell xcode plugin?
lambdabotConsider it noted.
vim_for_lifeyip: well, yeah. But you were arguing word-wrap is useless. It isn't.
glguyLoganCapaldo: in Haskell-mode, when you press tab, it cycles through the levels of identation that it thinks are meaningful
quicksilverEelis: I don't find writing commands to a hard-column width particularly hard. my editor will (hard-)wrap them for me happily enough.
LoganCapaldoOh ok
yipvim_for_life: i'm saying for code it's not that important
LoganCapaldothat's not what I meant then :)
vim_for_lifeyou code-centrist.
Eelisquicksilver: i consider that a complete conformist and needless compromise
vim_for_life@tell humasect there's no .Xcode file in the zip I downloaded! How should I build it?
lambdabotConsider it noted.
vim_for_life@seen humasect
lambdabotI saw humasect leaving #haskell 11d 8h 23m 59s ago, and .
vim_for_lifebad, bad karma.
glguyLoganCapaldo: you'd rather signal the end of an indentation level with your ; and } key?
LoganCapaldo: instead of your tab key?
LoganCapaldo: or maybe in the case of Lisp with you ) key?
LoganCapaldoI wouldn't rather lets say
glguyyour*
LoganCapaldoI tend to use auto indenting type features when I have a mess of poorly formatted code
since poorly formatted code won't compile its sort of a moot point
