chessguyGHC is not a kernel
sorearthe GHC RTS is much of a kernel; it has a scheduler, a memory allocator, and a interrupt-driven IO subsystem

sorearnormally it gets a block of memory from a host OS, runs virtual CPUs as OS threads, and implements IO interrupts as SIGIO

jerforgive the stupid question, but i'm used to mutable data. if i've got a string that i'd build up in peices imperatively in my usual language, how might one suggest i go about the same thing (from a good style perspective) in haskell?
